She is particularly interested in bringing clarity and developing the details of every scene. With her teaching experience she always created a very strong bond, an understanding and trust with the performers she directs and therefore bringing the best out of them. In this way she also creates a very good working environment, allowing the performers to use their creativity in full and rediscover, in many cases, the pleasure of performing for their audiences. She has been mentoring many individual performers, directors and writers, bringing her expertise to their shows and helping the artists to create their acts. Some of the companies, circuses and artists are: ● No Fit State Circus, part of the creative team for ‘Flying Higher’ show, Wales, 2012 ● The Road , cabaret Collective for No Fit State Circus, Wales, 2012 ● Urban Wurzel – stand up comedy show by James Dowsdeswell, UK 2012 ● The Road – cabaret concept by A de Castro – Int. UK theatre and theatre training is the richer for having her as a resident of this country. She has worked with many major companies including the National Theatre of Scotland, and makes major contribution to the training of emergent artists across the UK. Without her work, British theatre would be greatly impoverished. She is viewed as a leading figure in British theatre and

INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced info the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on untii complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

  • 1 Arts, Health and Wellbeing All Party Parliamentary Group
Arts, Health and Wellbeing All Party Parliamentary Group The Care Act How the arts and culture can contribute to improving the quality of care following the Francis Inquiry Wednesday July 2nd 4-5pm Room C, 1 Parliament St. SW1A 2NE Notes from the meeting Welcome and Introduction by the Rt Hon. Lord Howarth of Newport The subject of the meeting is the Care Act and how the arts can contribute to humanising health care. The Francis Inquiry has driven home the message that bureaucracy and procedures must not suppress imagination and humanity. It has been important in the development of the Care Act. This APPG is focused on how we can influence the guidance for Local Authorities in connection with the Care Act. Sir Robert Francis QC believes the arts have a role to play in delivering better healthcare. The history of arts and health goes back to the asclepeion at Epidaurus, where the theatre was next to, and integral to, the place of healing. In hospitals, functional processes tend to delete humanity and personal dignity. Staff can have their humanity crushed out of them by bureaucratic processes. They are often bleak environments without pictures on the walls, with exceptions such as Chelsea and Westminster. How can staff take pride in such environments, or care about keeping them clean? Although the connection with his Inquiry and the Care Act is primarily about compliance, the ward ‘culture’ can be very limiting. The Care Act emphasises the duty of local authorities to deliver individual wellbeing in relation to personal dignity and participation in work, education, training or recreation, as well as the individual’s contribution to society.

Introduction to Ecovenue Ecovenue is a signifi cant theatre-specifi c environmental project being run by The Theatres Trust. It aims to improve the environmental performance of forty-eight London theatres and raise awareness of how to make theatres greener. Ecovenue is promoting the sustainability of theatres and the reduction of carbon emissions through the provision of free theatre-specifi c, environmental advice. The project started in 2009 and runs until 2012. Forty-eight venues each undergo an Environmental Audit, and receive a Display Energy Certifi cate (DEC) and Advisory Report. They track their energy use through SMEasure. Each venue receives a second DEC a year after their fi rst to measure progress. Ecovenue includes a ‘DEC Pool’ of performing arts venues across the UK that have obtained DECs. The DEC Pool helps us to evaluate the project and share best practice and information, establish meaningful benchmarks, and provide a better understanding of energy use of theatres. Any theatre can join the DEC Pool. The Trust’s Theatres Magazine provides quarterly reports on the participants and the work of the Ecovenue project.
