From: Reviews and Criticism of Vietnam War Theatrical and Television Dramas (http://www.lasalle.edu/library/vietnam/FilmIndex/home.htm) compiled by John K. McAskill, La Salle University ([email protected]) Z2200 ZABRISKIE POINT (USA, 1970) Credits: director, Michelangelo Antonioni ; writers, Michelangelo Antonioni, Fred Garner, Sam Shepard, Tonio Guerra, Clare Peploe. Cast: Mark Frechette, Rod Taylor, Daria Halprin, Paul Fix. Summary: Melodrama set in contemporary California and Arizona. Mark, a student at a Los Angeles university, attends a meeting of radicals but leaves due to their inaction. With a revolver, he goes to the campus where police try to oust students from a building. He misses a chance to shoot a police officer because the officer gets shot. Mark steals a plane and flies east. He spots a young woman, Daria, driving to the house of her boss, Lee Allen, in Arizona. She stops and they drive to Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, where they make love. Later, they are stopped by a police officer and he decides to return to Los Angeles. When he lands, the police kill him. Daria hears about Mark’s death on the radio. She reaches the plush residence of her boss, who is a land developer. Repulsed by the crass materialism, she fantasizes about the destruction of the house and all it represents. Adair, Gilbert. Hollywood’s Vietnam [GB] (p. 40-41, 222) ___________.
