After Morrow’s first apparent goal was waved off, he put a white towel on the end of his stick in hock- ey’s famed gesture of mock surrender. “Our team battles through adversity, but those were two critical points of the game,” Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. “I still haven’t seen a distinct kicking motion, but I suppose somebody else did. The other one, I agree with the call ... but if Brenden Morrow isn’t cross-checked in the back, he would have put the puck down and in the back of the net. Those are two critical plays in the game, and you have to find a way to overcome that.” Evgeni Nabokov stopped 24 shots for the Sharks. Fight Continued from Page A-9 Hoya hand-picked Forbes, a decent fighter with little power, to be an opponent who would showcase his skills while at the same time not pose too much of a threat to his plans. Forbes cooperated by doing his best, but he rarely was able to get inside De La Hoya’s reach or mount any sustained attack. As he kept losing rounds, his corner became as desperate as the fighter, imploring him to land one big punch. “Try and make him walk into something,” trainer Jeff Mayweather told Forbes after the fourth round An announced crowd of 27,000, lured by ticket prices as low as $25, came to the Home Depot Center to do just that, even though the two fighters could barely be seen by fans in the upper reaches of the soccer stadium. The 35- year-old De La Hoya wanted to kick off what he says will be his final year in boxing before fans from his home- town. “It was so great to be able to fight here in Los Angeles in front of all these people, par- ticularly my fans of East L.A.,” he said. “It just felt really nice to be home.” MILESTONES SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2008 – B-1 Editor: Richard Rosier, 468-3520 The Ukiah Daily Journal [email protected]
