Sciences, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K any: Structured To determine growth response of existing apple varieties, selection of abstract- orchards in two major apple growing districts (Baramulla and Shopain) were detailing the current year done and then selection of the orchards at five different altitudes from each progress selected district were under taken (1600-2100 m). The minimum elevation report (word limit 250) between any 2 consecutive orchards has been kept more than 100 meters. For district Shopian altitude range lies between 1630- 2085 mts while for district Baramulla it lies between 1610-2055 mts. From each selected orchard three apple cultivars viz. Red Delicious, Golden delicious and Royal Delicious were selected and selection of similar type of apple trees from each orchard were made on the basis of tree health, vigour, age etc. After selection of orchards, phenological study, flowering and other fruit set parameters of the selected orchards at different locations has been completed. Further sampling of the leaves for the estimation of photosynthetic pigments (Chl-a, Chl-b, Total cholorphyll) were also completed. Similarly, fruits were collected from selected orchards and analyzed for various fruit 1 physico-chemical characteristics viz; fruit length, fruit breadth, fruit weight, fruit firmness, TSS, Total Sugar Content, TSS/Acidity ratio were performed. For assessment of soil health, depth wise composite soil samples were collected from each selected orchard at three different depths viz. 0-6 inch, 6- 18 inch and 18-30 inch,. The analysis of various parameters viz., pH, EC, OC, available N, P & K and micronutrients have been completed. The report shows that at least 229 people were killed following different incidents of violence, including 32 civilians who lost their life due to extrajudicial executions, only within a six months period, from January 1, 2020, until 30 June 2020. Women and children who should be protected and kept safe, suffer the hardest from the effects of the conflict, three children and two women have been killed over this period alone. On an almost daily basis, unlawful killings of one or two individuals are reported in Jammu and Kashmir. As you may be aware, impunity for human rights abuses is a long-standing issue in Jammu and Kashmir. Abuses by security force personnel, including unlawful killings, rape, and disappearances, have often go ne uninvestigated and unpunished. India authorities in Jammu and Kashmir also frequently violate other rights. Prolonged curfews restrict people’s movement, mobile and internet service shutdowns curb free expression, and protestors often face excessive force and the use of abusive weapons such as pellet-firing shotguns. While the region seemed to have slowly emerging out of the complete crackdown imposed on 5 August 2019, with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lockdown was reimposed and so the conditions for civilians remain dire.

A SATELLITE BASED RAPID ASSESSMENT ON FLOODS IN JAMMU & KASHMIR – SEPTEMBER, 2014 In Collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre Dept. of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing Indian Space Research Organization, Government of Jammu and Kashmir Hyderabad-37. Bemina, Srinagar-10 A SATELLITE BASED RAPID ASSESSMENT ON FLOODS IN JAMMU & KASHMIR – SEPTEMBER, 2014 Principal Coordinator Suresh Chugh, IFS Principal Investigator Majid Farooq © Copyright No part of this publication/report may be reproduced without the prior permission of the publisher, i.e., Dept. of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing Government of Jammu and Kashmir Bemina, Srinagar-10 & National Remote Sensing Centre Indian Space Research Organization, Hyderabad-37. Executive Summary Jammu & Kashmir experienced one of the worst floods in the past 60 years, during first week of September 2014, due to unprecedented and intense rains. The Jhelum River and its tributaries were in spate and caused extensive flooding in the region. The Decision Support Centre (DSC) of NRSC in collaboration with Department of Environment & Remote Sensing, J&K took necessary action on satellite data acquisition and processing and kept a close watch on the flood situation. All possible data from Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellites, as well as foreign satellites, covering Kashmir valley were obtained and analyzed. Rapid flood mapping and monitoring was done on almost daily basis and the flood inundation information was prepared. In addition, cumulative flood inundation, flood progression and recession maps were also prepared. Flood inundation simulation study was done using CARTO-DEM for Jhelum River to identify the possible flood affected areas and the same was uploaded on Bhuvan portal.

  • Executive Summary Shopian Is One of the Newly Created District of J&K
Executive Summary Shopian is one of the newly created District of J&K State, it came into existence after being carve out of District Anantnag and made functional administratively with effect from 2nd April 2007. The District is surrounded by Rajouri, Kulgam and Pulwama. Total flow of Ground Level Credit (GLC) under priority sector was Rs. 367.76 crore, Rs. 246.76 crore and Rs. 443.99 crore during 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15, respectively. District Credit Plan showed achievement of 235%, 75.91% and 101% over same period. Share of agriculture credit in total GLC during the past three years was 74%, 90% and 80% respectively. The projections of Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) of Shopian District for 2016-17 are assessed at Rs.604.29 crore. Sector wise coverage of credit potential is indicated as under: Rs. 503.76 crore for Agriculture (Farm credit, Agriculture infrastructure and Ancillary activities), Rs. 63.51 crore for MSME (including medium enterprises), Rs. 1.80 crore for Export Credit, Rs. 8.43 crore for Education, Rs. 18.56 crore for Housing, Rs. 6.75 crore for Social Infrastructure, Rs. 2.08 crore for Renewable Energy, and Rs. 5.45 crore for Others. PLP for credit for 2016-17 marks 20.55% growth over PLP of 2015-16, for the Priority Sectors in Shopian District. Major constraints likely to affect the translation of potential for institutional credit assessed under the PLP-2016-17 into actual flow of GLC in various sectors are presented as under: poor outreach of development programmes of State and Central Government, poor branch network, low spread of BCs, lack of SHPIs, lack of basic rural infrastructure facilities, apathy of farmers/ rural people towards banks, lack of coordination among agencies, absence of Crop Insurance facilities due to poor infrastructure and awareness, lack of off-farm skills and facilities for rural industrial entrepreneurship, etc.
