Flag Football The SBCPRD Flag Football Program provides youth the opportunity to learn the basic rules and fundamentals of the game in a noncompetitive environment. All flag football players receive a team jersey and participate in practices and games. Age League Practice/Game Days Fee Fee (after Aug 10) 5-6 Pee Wee Flag Mon/Thurs/Sat* $40 $50 *Teams meet two to three times a week for practice and/or games. Age control date for flag football is September 1, 2018 (age on September 1, 2018 determines which league a child will participate) Tackle Football--Child must be present at registration for weighing and fitting of equipment. Three tackle football leagues are offered by SBCPRD. The Tiny Mite Tackle League introduces players to the basic level of fundamentals and techniques and builds on skills learned in the Flag league. There are no standings kept in this league. The Minor Tackle League builds on the fundamentals learned in the tiny mite tackle league by introducing the higher skills of tackle football. Volunteer coaches focus on teaching techniques that a player will use in this league and in the future. The Midget Tackle League is for 11 and 12 year olds and introduces players to the finer points of football. Standings are kept and all teams advance to end of the season bowl games in both the Minor and Midget Tackle Leagues. Saturday, September 22—more details to come! 2 CHEERLEADING & GOLF Cheerleading Recreation cheerleading is a wonderful recreation program for new and experienced cheerleaders, ages 4-12 years old. Learn cooperation, self confidence, respect, great friendships and all of the important skills of cheerleading. We do our best to place cheerleaders with their sibling football players (tackle leagues), but cannot always do so. We cannot guarantee sibling placement after August 17. Age control date for cheerleading is September 1, 2018 (age on September 1, 2018 determines which league a child will participate) CHILD MUST BE PRESENT DURING REGISTRATION FOR FITTING OF UNIFORM. Uniform fitting deadline is Friday, August 17 at 5:30 pm. Due to ordering policies we are required to meet certain deadlines. After August 17, there will be an additional shipping fee added to uniform orders. Cheer Competition Thursday, November 8 7 PM Statesboro High School Gym Minor and Midget League Cheerleaders will show off their moves from the football season in one final competition. All cheerleaders will receive participation awards and we will have first and second place winners in the minor and midget divisions for best performance at the competition. Teams will be judged on showmanship, cheer technique, appearance, and overall impression. Each team will be required to perform a cheer and a dance. **All Tiny Mite League cheerleaders will perform a special cheer exhibition during the competition. Junior Golf Schools Local PGA Professionals will teach the proper etiquette and FUNdamentals of the game using SNAG, KwikGolf, and US Kids Equipment. Golf clubs are available for use. The sessions will be held at the Georgia Southern Uni- versity Golf Course and are open to beginners or experienced young golfers between the ages of 5-17 years old. Participants should wear golf or athletic shoes when attending. Each child is required to sign a waiver from the GSU golf course prior to participating. Soccer Skills Challenge— Saturday, September 29, 9:30-11:30 am The Soccer Skills Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 29 at Mill Creek Park. Youth Volleyball Volleyball is a very popular sport that is played professionally, as well as, in recreational leagues, on school teams, in backyards, sand- lots and beaches.

And GHSA schools will have greater oppor- tunities for pre-sale purchases through an official E-commerce GHSA store be- ginning this fall.     GHSA “Items of Interest” February 2007 Reminders of Changes in the Reclassification Process Incredibly, it is just about time to reclassify member schools for the 2008-2010 cycle. This work will begin in late spring and will be final- ized in January of 2008. The reclassification process has been changed over the past year, so it is important to refresh our collective memories about those changes. In March (2006) and August (2006), constitutional amendments passed two votes of the Executive Committee, and that also changed the procedures in By-Law 4.16. Since the final vote occurred after the printing of the 2006-07 GHSA Constitution and By-laws, this information can only be found in the min- utes of the past two Executive Committee meetings. Reclassification for public schools will be based on an average of the FTE counts provided by the Georgia Department of Education for the spring semester (2007) and the fall semester (2007). This means that the communications to the membership and appeals processes will be compacted into a timeframe beginning in late-October to ending in mid-January. It is believed that this change will provide more accurate information about member schools whose popula- tions are changing so rapidly. Private schools will be reclassified on their actual FTE counts at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year. Shortly after the fall count is released by the Department of Education, the classifications will be estab- lished and sent to schools for review (probably in early November) and schools will have two weeks to file their requests to play at a higher classification.

    GHSA “Items of Interest” December 2005 / January 2006 Seasons Greetings and HAPPY NEW YEAR! In the Greek language, there are two words that could be used to communicate the English word “new.” One strictly means new in time or unused. The other carries the meaning of higher quality. As the GHSA looks toward the unused days of 2006, there is a strong desire to provide a higher quality of service to member schools. In 2006, we look forward to the continuation of high quality athletics and competitive activities. There is every reason to believe that the great accomplishments in the fall sports and activities season will be matched in the winter and spring seasons. The use of central sites for both Team Dual Wrestling (Macon Centreplex) and Traditional Wrestling (The Arena at Gwinnett) has stimulated excitement. On Saturday, April 29, the second Student Leadership Summit will be held at the Macon Centreplex. Information about this event will be forthcoming after the first of the year. The first 100 schools to register will be able to send a female athlete, a male athlete, and a coach or administrator to this one-day conference. On Monday, June 26, the inaugural Coaches Symposium on Sports Medicine will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest as a prelude to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association annual conference. Recognized leaders in sports medicine will conduct practical workshops for the benefit of GHSA coaches.

    The First News First Presbyterian Church May, 2018 From Your Pastor It’s hard to believe, but another school year is drawing to a close and summer is approaching. Many in our church family will be celebrating graduations, wed- dings and other transitions. Co-mingled with all of the celebrations is a bit of wistfulness… each celebration acknowledges the successful completion of one chapter, and as such, there is a bit of loss involved. Graduates will often be leaving home to go to college, start a new life, or a new job. Brides and grooms will be starting their own families that are connected to us, yet distinct in their own right. Transitions like these mean that everyone’s roles change a bit, and that can be frightening. But be of good courage: Life is a journey, and Jesus reminds us that “behold, I am with you…” He goes before us to prepare the way, and as our Good Shepherd, will find us and bring us back when we have gone astray. I pray that all of us who are facing significant times of transition will allow ourselves to feel the joy, the sadness and the anxiety that changes bring, AND that we can rest in the comfort of God’s presence in all, through all and beyond all that life can throw at us.
