La especie de primate de más amplia distribución en México. “Es habitante de los bosques, sobre todo de los que están por donde sale el sol en Anáhuac. Tiene el dorso pequeño, es barrigudo y su cola, que a veces se enrosca, es larga. Sus manos y sus pies parecen de hombre; también sus uñas. Los Ozomatin gritan y silban y hacen visajes a la gente. Arrojan piedras y palos. -

Based on videoclips obtained by camera traps, we documented the behavior of gathering and carrying nesting material in curling tails by Didelphis marsupialis and Metachirus nudicaudatus. Additionally, we documented for the fist time an individual of .D marsupialis gathering leaves and other nesting material in the pouch. -

Hantavirus Importance Hantaviruses are a large group of viruses that circulate asymptomatically in Disease rodents, insectivores and bats, but sometimes cause illnesses in humans. Some of these agents can occur in laboratory rodents or pet rats. Clinical cases in humans vary in Hantavirus Fever, severity: some hantaviruses tend to cause mild disease, typically with complete recovery; others frequently cause serious illnesses with case fatality rates of 30% or Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal higher. Hantavirus infections in people are fairly common in parts of Asia, Europe and Syndrome (HFRS), Nephropathia South America, but they seem to be less frequent in North America. Hantaviruses may Epidemica (NE), Hantavirus occasionally infect animals other than their usual hosts; however, there is currently no Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), evidence that they cause any illnesses in these animals, with the possible exception of Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary nonhuman primates. Syndrome, Hemorrhagic Nephrosonephritis, Epidemic Etiology Hemorrhagic Fever, Korean Hantaviruses are members of the genus Orthohantavirus in the family Hantaviridae Hemorrhagic Fever and order Bunyavirales. As of 2017, 41 species of hantaviruses had officially accepted names, but there is ongoing debate about which viruses should be considered discrete species, and additional viruses have been discovered but not yet classified. Different Last Updated: September 2018 viruses tend to be associated with the two major clinical syndromes in humans, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary (or cardiopulmonary) syndrome (HPS). However, this distinction is not absolute: viruses that are usually associated with HFRS have been infrequently linked to HPS and vice versa. A mild form of HFRS in Europe is commonly called nephropathia epidemica. -

Abstract: The Volta Grande Environmental Unity represents one of the few remnants of Cerrado protected by a reserve in the Triângulo Mineiro region, municipalities of Conceição das Alagoas (19°55' S, 48°23' W) and Miguelópolis (20°12' S, 48°03' W), in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, respectively. The mammalian fauna of this reserve was inventoried between 2003 and 2004 to generate estimates about taxonomic composition, richness, and abundance of species. A sampling effort of 832 trapping-nights resulted in 24 species recorded. Cumulative curves suggest that the overall inventory is not complete and that more species are likely to be registered. -

They are found only in tropical and subtropical zone forests of Central and South America. Of the two recognized species, the larger, Oryzomys (Oecomys) concolor, occurs in northern Colombia. The author collected 27 specimens from six localities during his 1941-43 tenure of the Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship and 38 specimens, including six of the smaller species, Oryzomys (Oecomys) bicolor, in other parts of Colombia while conducting the Chicago Natural History Museum-Colombian Zoological Expedi- tion (1949-52). Due to the morphological similarity in many of the groups, their taxonomy is controversial. Karyotype information proved to be an important tool for distinguishing some species because some of them are species-specific. Additionally, rodents can be an excellent model for chromosome evolution studies since many rearrangements have been described in this group.This work brings a review of cytogenetic data of Brazilian rodents, with information about diploid and fundamental numbers, polymorphisms, and geographical distribution. -

E-mail: Abstract: We report a new record for the bushy-tailed opossum Glironia venusta Thomas, 1912 and the water opossum Chironectes minimus (Zimmermann, 1780) in the Floresta Nacional de Carajás, municipality of Parauapebas, state of Pará, Brazil (06°03’00” S, 50°15’00” W). This study represents the second record of Glironia venusta for eastern Brazilian Amazon. For Chironectes minimus, this record extends the range of the species 558 km southeastwards from the closest known locality in Pará. -

Abstract We have created a database system named CIPEMAB (CItogenética dos PEquenos MAmíferos Brasileiros) to as- semble images of the chromosomes of Brazilian small mammals (Rodents and Marsupials). It includes karyotype in- formation, such as diploid number, karyotype features, idiograms, and sexual chromosomes characteristics. CIPEMAB facilitates quick sharing of information on chromosome research among cytogeneticists as well as re- searchers in other fields. The database contains more than 300 microscopic images, including karyotypic images ob- tained from 182 species of small mammals from the literature. Researchers can browse the contents of the database online (http://www.citogenetica.ufes.br). The system enables users to locate images of interest by taxa, and to dis- play the document with detailed information on species names, authors, year of the species publication, and karyo- types pictures in different colorations. CIPEMAB has a wide range of applications, such as comparing various karyotypes of Brazilian species and identifying manuscripts of interest.
