The focus of this Subtask was on identifying obstacles that architects are facing when implementing passive and active solar strategies in their design, especially during the early design phase (EDP) of building projects. The results of this Subtask also aim to provide strategies and resources for practitioners regarding the use of different digital tools and design methods for solar design. © 2012 PublishedPublished by by Elsevier Elsevier Ltd. Introduction Previous studies done under the umbrella of the International Energy Agency identified several obstacles that hinder the application of solar energy strategies into the mainstream building practice. Traditionally, the economic issue has been dominant in this debate; however, as renewables-based energy systems costs decline, the economic issue is slowly losing its rationale.
