The art of breeding commercial thoroughbreds and champion racehorses has been passed seamlessly from father to son and Widden Stud is now progressing under the excellent stewardship of Antony Thompson, a seventh generation descendant of John Thompson, who emigrated from England in 1832 with little but a burning ambition to succeed. Located on 7,000 acres of spectacular horse country in the Widden Valley, our farm features rich alluvial creek flats sheltered by magnificent sandstone cliffs providing a pristine and tranquil environment in which our bloodstock can thrive and grow. A perfectly balanced environment produces well grown yearlings with good bone, strong muscles and all the physical attributes needed for success. Placement into the correct sale is an important part of the equation and we can help you choose the right sale for your horse and then have it there on the day in sparkling condition to ensure a satisfying result. Marketing and presentation of our yearling drafts is second to none and strong clearance rates indicate our ability to negotiate, meet the market and achieve good outcomes for our clients.
