Widden Has Been Well Served in Making Stallions On Sebring Zoustar Supido Star Witness Nicconi Your Song Shamus Award Stratum Star Outreach the future is now ANTONY THOMPSON 2018 has seen the fortunes of Widden Stud sires continue to rise. Zoustar emerged as the Champion Australian First Season Sire, following in the footsteps of Your Song who was the Champion First Season Sire by winners last year, while Sebring is powering through the current season with winnings in excess of $9 million and 11 Stakes winners to his credit. Star Witness, Nicconi and Your Song are proven young stakes sires priced affordably to deliver further success. While our younger stallions, Shamus Award, Outreach, Stratum Star and newcomer Supido, will write the next chapter of success. Stallion power is what makes a stud great for generations to come and we believe our current roster of sires is one of the best we have ever presented. It covers all bases, offering large and small breeders a variety of options to achieve the best result for your mare, both commercially and on the racetrack. The ongoing support of our valued clients has built the reputation of our sires and we never underestimate the role you play in that success. It all starts with a good book of mares and goes from there. We look forward to working closely with you to breed the champions of the future. Those future champions are created with decisions you make today – the future is now. ROBERT ANDERSON Antony, Katie and the Widden family have been a large part of my life for the best part of 30 years now. It is a relationship that has developed into something very special and I'm grateful for not only the care and management Widden provide my horses but also their professional advice and friendship. I have seen a young Antony grow into a much admired industry leader who ensures wonderful guidance on the direction of my bloodstock. Derek's advice and input over the years has been invaluable and David Merrick (whom I probably drive mad!), his knowledge and experience is second to none. He is the classic horseman and has been a great mentor to me over the years. I have had the pleasure of visiting many of the great stud farms around the world, yet there is something unique, something that mere words fail to describe the beauty of and feeling you get when spending time with your horses at Widden. Widden is, and always has been, a farm that is inviting – there's no exclusivity and as a client you’re made to feel a 'part of the family'. It is a relationship I value tremendously. “ Words fail to describe the feeling you get when spending time with your horses at Widden” DAN FLETCHER For some reason, even back when I was dreaming about breeding racehorses rather than actually doing it, I’ve always been fascinated by Widden. I suspect that must have a lot to do with the stallions they had when I was a kid – that’s when racing was getting into my blood. When I think back, maybe a little bit of Widden was getting into my blood too! I’ll never forget the first time I visited Widden. The history of the place just blows me away. I remember thinking of all the racing greats that can trace their origins to this magnificent valley. Kingston Town for me is the ultimate, and it almost felt like hallowed ground to stand where he, and so many other champions, were conceived. On a professional level, I can’t overstate how much we value our relationship with Widden. As a commercial breeder, it’s simply priceless. Their involvement gives us the confidence to commit to the larger investments necessary to breed major sale stock, as well as the ability to diversify and better manage risk. Antony and Derek have been terrific mentors, and I find myself learning something new every time I have the privilege of experiencing a sale week with them. “ I’ll never forget the first time I visited Widden” – ZOUSAIN – – Hannah, Melissa and Katie – – David Redvers – “ The team at Widden are SHEIKH FAHAD AL THANI focussed and January of 2018 on the Gold Coast was a particularly enjoyable and successful time for our operation in Australia. Along with Widden Stud, we were joint breeders of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner driven” Sunlight, but also enjoyed a great sale with our homebred yearlings. Sunlight herself was the result of a carefully hatched plan in 2014 by the Qatar Bloodstock team, along with Antony and his team, to buy specific mares in support of Zoustar in his first season at stud. For this mating to have produced Sunlight, and help secure Zoustar the title of Champion First Season Sire, was extremely rewarding. The team at Widden are focussed and driven and have played a huge part in our breeding successes in the Southern Hemisphere. We are delighted to be working with them and look forward to many more successful days on the track and in the sales ring.
