Reporters are to remain fair and balanced in their gathering of facts and figures, relating of interviews and eyewitness accounts, and structuring the story. This is more challenging in sports writing. How do reporters on the home team beat keep from being fans when relating the losses, wins and reasons for both and when covering the opposing team? D.C.’s Capitals, Mystics and Nationals were champions who received extra pages and special coverage, including commemorative sections. This did not stop other professional, collegiate and high school teams from being reported. Beat reporters continued writing articles on mens and womens teams, news briefs highlighted games and matches, and Cover All scoreboards maintained the stats. Teams with Use “Sports Identity,” a survey of The Washington Post SPORTS pages Accuracy and a review of your student media sports coverage, to brainstorm, to suggest and to launch deeper and and Balance fuller reporting by your student media.

THE HISTORY 2020-21 UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 1 LADY REBEL HISTORY UNLV has a long and impressive history of success over its 42 seasons of competition in women’s basketball. The Lady Rebels hold an all-time record of 807-542, a winning percentage of .578, and were the 61st team in NCAA history to reach 800 wins thanks to a 67-60 victory at Air Force on Jan. 14, 2020. UNLV has recorded eight trips to the NCAA Tournament and has received bids to 11 WNIT Tournaments, including a championship runner-up finish in 2003-04. The Lady Rebels began their first season in 1974-75, as Barbara Quinn coached the team to an 8-7 record in their inaugural campaign. Dan Ayala then took over at the helm of the squad, and to this day remains one of the most successful coaches in school history, leading the Lady Rebels to an amazing 109-23 record over his five seasons, including a 23-2 mark in 1977-78 and a 24-2 mark in 1978-79. His 1977-78 team also reached the AIAW Regional finals. Shelia Strike coached the Lady Rebels starting in the 1980-81 season, and after two years was joined by Jim Bolla as co-head coach. The two led UNLV into its most successful seasons in the school’s history, as the team won 22+ games in all five seasons that Bolla and Strike served as co-coaches. @UNLVLADYREBELS @UNLVLADYREBELS UNLV won the inaugural Big West Tournament in 1984, and followed with titles in 1985 and 1986.
