The terms of this agreement are: 1. I will sign for any equipment loaned to me by the club. 2. I am responsible for the replacement cost of any equipment lost or damaged to the value of: Helmet £200, Shoulder Pads £100, Game Shirt £50, Game Pants £30, Leg Pads £30, miscellaneous kit as determined by the club committee. 3. I will keep all kit clean and in good repair, and maintain it properly during the loan period. 4. I will not modify or alter the kit in any way. 5. I will provide any other required equipment that is not loaned to me by the club. 6. Any equipment issued to me must be returned to the club at the end of the season, upon my leaving the club, or upon request by the club. 7. I agree that the kit I am issued is in good repair, and is suitable for use. 8. What words, logos and symbols are allowed on the uniform? All uniform rules are housed in Rule 1. Football Helmet Reconditioning in Unprecedented Conditions Copyright 2020 National Sporting Goods Association 1 Football Helmet Reconditioning In Unprecedented Conditions Background The COVID-19 pandemic upset the typical plans of being ready for football in the fall. There was some level of disruption from the NFL to the youngest ages. Some programs started their seasons around their normal time. Others put on hold until the winter or spring and there are some that were shut down entirely. The questions surrounding this unexpected situation led the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association (NAERA) to collaborate on a video “Football Helmet Reconditioning in Unprecedented Conditions.” In this video, NAERA Executive Director Tony Beam and NAERA President Bob Fawley share their expertise with NSGA Team Dealer Division and Communications Director Marty Maciaszek to provide some guidance to the reconditioning process during the COVID-19 pandemic where numerous high schools and colleges are planning to play in the spring of 2021. It is a resource tool for football coaches, athletic directors, school and program administrators, members of the sporting goods industry and the media. A PipsqueakAMONG GIANTS How a 145-pound walk-on went the distance with one of Vanderbilt’s greatest teams ever By GARY GERSON, BS’85 | Illustrations by KEVIN MENCK A t the beginning of my freshman year at Vanderbilt in 1981, I joined the marching band. I lasted about two weeks, when I figured out I was no longer the big band boy I had been in high school back in Morristown, Tenn. After the director told me he wanted me to move props around during the halftime shows rather than star on the xylophone, quitting marching band was an easy decision. I would have more time to goof off and wallow in self-pity. I started hanging around with the football players in their dorm rooms at night, though they were usually too tired to do anything except telephone their moms and study a little and play bad electric guitar. These guys were huge and good looking and always tired out, but tired with a sense of satisfaction and accom- plishment. Though I hadn’t gone out for football in high school, I had always read about college football players in Sports Illustrated and had glamorized them through my adolescence, worshiping them at UT while I was growing up in East Tennessee. Chairman’s Welcome Welcome again to the University of Hertfordshire. The London Blitz continue their itinerant campaign facing the Bristol Aztecs, the first of the return legs to happen this season. At the last encounter, the Blitz emerged victorious 19 - 39 in a hard fought game that highlighted a number of shortcomings that would need to be worked on as the season progressed if the team were to continue in its pursuit of the national championship. So far this season has shown a greater degree of parity in the league, and all its players are enjoying the harder fought competition. This has meant that the Blitz have had to work even harder to sustain their position in British football. This is the first return to the field for the A team since a close and hard fought loss against the rival London Warriors. Though there were some positives taken from that game, the overbearing feelings were frustration and determination. These feelings will need to be applied effectively throughout the second half of the season. The Blitz never enjoy losing, and will never get in the habit of doing it. Fortunately, the B team and Under 19 teams made up for this loss with some very impressive results last weekend. The Blitz B came from behind in impressive fashion to topple the Ipswich Cardinals 32-27, in an effort that showed real determination and endurance. The Under 19 team cruised to a 60-0 victory vs. the Sussex Thunder, in a performance that really shows the skill we have coming up through the ranks.
