He used to be a PDP senator for Kebbi Central. The APC campaigned on the platforms of "change" and anti-corruption. But Bagudu was a bag man for dictator Sani Abacha. According to the US Department of Justice: “General Sani Abacha was the President of Nigeria from 1993 to 1998. During his time in office, General Abacha, Mohammed Sani Abacha, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Bagudu) and others embezzled and extorted hundreds of millions of dollars from the Government of Nigeria. Abacha and his associates then transported and laundered the proceeds of those crimes through the United States. “Between January 1994 and June 1998, General Abacha, Aliyu Ismaila Gwarzo (Gwarzo) and others prepared letters requesting funds from the Government of Nigeria, based on the false pretence that they were needed to ensure national security and the stability of General Abacha’s regime. “In order to execute this scheme, Gwarzo submitted letters to General Abacha in his capacity as National Security Advisor, requesting millions of U.S. dollars, British pounds sterling, and/or Nigerian naira, to address unidentified ‘emergencies’ that threatened Nigeria’s national 1 / 2 Naijiant The revolution will be on the web http://www.naijiant.com interest. General Abacha approved these request and disbursed the requested funds. “These funds, however, were not used to ensure national security or stability of the regime. Instead, these funds were diverted to shell companies and personal accounts created by Mohammed Sani Abacha or Bagudu." These are the people that promised to bring "change" to Nigeria. But then again, Buhahari, the main "change agent", once claimed that Abacha was not corrupt. 2 / 2 Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org).

PROGRESSIVE OF THE MONTH FEATURE SPECIAL FOCUS Umahi onboard the Faces of progressives Yahaya Bello’s progressives’ train giant strides First Edition Second Edition Third Edition Fourth Edition From the Editor-in-Chief Hello, Progressives he National Assembly has been unusually peaceful, and it appears most Nigerians are taking it for granted. We could not have forgotten the customary topsy-turvy relationship between the Executive and T legislative arms. It used to be a norm for the two arms to be at loggerhead at the expense of the public good. For nearly two decades, Nigeria's democracy has been postmarked by counterproductive OFFICIAL MONTHLY JOURNAL OF THE APC/PGF posturing between the Presidency and the lawmakers, even when the October - November 2020 majority of them are from the same governing party who ought to be prosecuting the same manifesto. This has gone on for so long that many Nigerians believe it was the ideal. And the ideal, which is what we have witnessed since the 9th National Assembly Editor-in-Chief was inaugurated, is erroneously considered to be a misnomer. LANRE ISSA-ONILU Our cover story in this edition cannot be more apt. The Progressives Team brings you a Editor thought-provoking interview of the cerebral and dexterous President of the Senate, Mr. EDEGBE ODEMWINGIE Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan. He provided a comprehensive appraisal of the great activities of Production Editor the 9th Senate. The 9th Senate faces accusation of being a rubber-stamp for the REMI ADELOWO Executive for choosing to work for the public good while maintaining its turf.
