The special presentation will take place at halftime of the Dolphins’ Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence is one of three iconic symbols that represent the elite status of being a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Each Hall of Famer received their Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and unveiled their Bronzed Bust during their respective Enshrinements. All three symbols – the Gold Jacket, the Bronzed Bust, and the Ring of Excellence – will be displayed during the halftime presentation during which the legendary Dolphins players will be presented with their official Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence. Csonka, Griese, Little, Marino, Stephenson and Warfield will also wear their Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and the Bronzed Busts of these Heroes of the Game will be temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame to make their way to Miami for the ceremony. As part of the partnership between the Hall of Fame and Kay® Jewelers, all living members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame will receive the new Ring of Excellence that was designed by Kay® Jewelers in 2013. This year marks the second of three seasons in which the Ring of Excellence will be presented to the Hall of Famers in special ceremonies. Hall of Famer and former Dolphins Head Coach DON SHULA (Class of COMMITMENT • INTEGRITY • COURAGE • RESPECT • EXCELLENCE 1997) received his new Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence last season during a special halftime ceremony in Miami.     TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE MIAMI DOLPHINS EDITION Miami Dolphins Team History No pro football club in history ever advanced more quickly from the fi rst-year dregs every expansion team faces to the ultimate achievement in its sport than the Miami Dolphins did in the six-year period between 1966 and 1972. In 1966, they began their pro football life as the ninth member of the American Football League. Six years later, Miami became the only National Football League team ever to record a perfect season. The 1972 Miami Dolphins won the AFC Eastern division and AFC championships and then defeated the Washington Redskins 14-7 in Super Bowl VII to complete an unblemished 17-0-0 record. The Dolphins, who were founded by Joseph Robbie, also got off to a perfect start in the fi rst game of their fi rst AFL season when running back Joe Auer returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown against the Oakland Raiders. But the Miami team returned to reality even before the end of its fi rst game. Oakland rallied to win and the Dolphins fi nished their fi rst season with a 4-10 record. George Wilson was the Dolphins’ fi rst coach. He fi nished his four-year AFL tenure after the 1969 season with a 15-39-2 record. But those were not wasted years for the Dolphins because they were steadily adding new talent -- quarterback Bob Griese in 1967, running back Larry Csonka in 1968 and guard Larry Little in 1969 -- that would eventually turn them into winners.

    For Immediate Release For More Information, Contact: January 7, 2012 Joe Horrigan at (330) 456-8207 15 MODERN-ERA FINALISTS FOR HALL OF FAME ELECTION ANNOUNCED Two first-year eligible nominees – coach Bill Parcells and tackle Will Shields – are among the 15 modern-era finalists who will be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the Hall’s Selection Committee meets in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012. Joining the first-year eligible, are 12 modern-era players and a contributor. The 15 modern-era finalists, along with the two senior nominees announced in August 2011 (former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jack Butler and former Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins guard Dick Stanfel) will be the only candidates considered for Hall of Fame election when the 44-member Selection Committee meets. To be elected, a finalist must receive a minimum positive vote of 80 percent. Although technically a first-year eligible candidate, Parcells has been a finalist twice before (2001, 2002) following his announced retirement as head coach of the New York Jets in 1999. At the time the Hall of Fame By-Laws did not require a coach to be retired the now mandatory five seasons. Parcells returned to coach the Dallas Cowboys in 2003 and the five-year waiting period was in effect when he retired from coaching in 2006.
