STORYLINE: Appearing in its second straght Super Bowl, Dallas ran for a then-record 252 yards, 95 and one TD from and 74 from , in a domi- nating win over Miami in Super Bowl VI. Dallas only threw 19 times, completing 12 for two TDs, one to and the other to . Former Florida A&M track and football star “Bullet” Bob Hayes was one of the Cowboys’ weapons as a receiver and kick returner. Of the 11 black college players on the teams’ rosters, two (2) were from the CIAA (Morgan State and Elizabeth City State), four (4) were from the SIAC (Fort Valley State, Bethune-Cookman and Flori- da A&M), four (4) hailed from the SWAC (Jackson State, Texas Southern, Southern and Grambling) and one was from an independent (BIshop).

DALLAS Bob Hayes (Florida A&M) WR, Dallas One carry for 16 yards and two receptions for 24 yards in win over Dolphins. Also field- ed two punts and gained -1 yards. - Returned first punt of the game for 1-yard loss. - Caught 5-yard pass from Stauback on Dallas’s first play from scrimmage. - On Dallas’s second possession of the first quarter, caught 19-yard pass from Stau- bach. Five plays later kicks 9-yard to put Dallas up 3-0. - Fair catches punt on first play of second quarter. - Ran 16 yards on a third-quarter reverse down to Miami 6 to set up 1st-and-goal. Two plays later, Duane Thomas goes over from 3 yards out to put Cowboys up 17-3 with 9:43 to go in the quarter. Jefthro Pugh, DT (Elizabeth City State) One tackle in win over Miami. - On 2nd-and-10 from Miami 27, stopped after 2-yard second quarter run. Ike Thomas, DB/KR (Bishop) - Returned second-half kickoff 23 yards to the Dallas 24. - Stopped Csonka on 11-yard sweep to the right on third play from end of game. Rayfield Wright, OT (Fort Valley State) Helped pave the way for the Cowboys to rush for 252 yards from his left tackle position.

MIAMI Lloyd Mumphord, DB (Texas Southern) Three special teams’ tackles in loss to Dallas - Tackled Bob Hayes for 1-yard loss on first punt of the game, four plays in. - Tackled after 11-yard kickoff return on last play of first half. - Tackled Ike Thomas after 23-yard second-half kickoff return. Hubert Ginn, RB (Florida A&M) One kickoff return for 32 yards in loss to Dallas - Returns first-quarter kickoff after Dallas field goal 32 yards. Larry Little, RG (Bethune-Cookman) Started at right guard for the Dolphins.

MVP: Roger Stauback, QB, Dallas - Ran five times for 18 yards and was 12 of 19 for 119 passing yards with two TDs.

KEY FACTS: The Dallas defense held Miami to only10 first downs,185 yards of total offense and success on only 2 of 9 third downs. The Dolphins lost two and threw one inter- ception. Miami was not penalized in the game.
