ABOUT THE FESTIVAL (Legend/History/Myth)
This temple is one of the ancient temples in Alappuzha district. Legend says that this temple existed even before the Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Swamy temple. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of the temple. Hence Shivarathri festival is celebrated in this temple in a grand manner. Shivarathri is celebrated in gratitude of Lord Shiva who saved the whole world by drinking deathly poison Kalakooda Visham. In this temple deity is placed in west direction.

Bhagavatha Sapthaham Shivarathri festival is celebrated in high pomp and grandeur. Annadanam Annual festival falls in the Malayalam month Kumbam Cultural Programs and (February/March). It is a 10 days spectacular event. There folk arts is no flag hoisting ceremony. The shrine is traditionally Spiritual discourses decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, Seminars traditional lamps and lights. There are special poojas and Percussion Music offerings during the festival period. Also annadanam is there Musical Concerts on all days. Traditional performing arts and music and Dance dance are staged during this period. There are numerous cultural programs and temple arts performed on all days of the festival. Thousands of people visit the temple on Maha Shivarathri day.
