    Scout and Guide Stamps Club BULLETIN Volume 60 No. 1 (Whole No. 343) 50 years ago - see Peter Duck’s “Notes from the President” starting on page 6. Congratulations to the Cub Scouts who are celebrating their Centenary in 2016. SPRING 2016 1 Editorial So here we are making our way through 2016, which in Scouting terms is recognised as the Centenary of the founding of the Wolf Cubs (or Cub Scouts as they are now known). In my District of Chelmsford we have started the celebrations with a special Founders’ Day activity and Scouts’ Own which took place on Saturday 20th February. There were 157 Cubs present and I understand that between them they managed to achieve over 300 badges during what was a quite intensive afternoon. My personal base was explaining the history of Cub Scouting and I exhibited Uniforms, stamps, postcards, badges and books. There was quite a surprising amount of interest with some of the young people standing with eyes wide open when I mentioned how it had all started. (The only down side to the day was that I managed to leave my car with its lights on and had to wait for a service engineer to attend and give me a jump start - still that was only 25 minutes - thanks AA.) In the summer we are holding a much larger weekend event with cubs from all over the County of Essex camping from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. Again I will be putting on a history base for the Saturday and will be assisted by our Chairman so we are hoping to attract some potential new members - if not from the Cubs then from their Leaders.

    Document 5 Youth Advisors Elections 12TH WORLD SCOUT YOUTH FORUM YOUTH ADVISORS ELECTIONS NOTE This document should be examined and discussed in your Organization and brought to the Forum by your delegation. The personal information contained in the first part of the presentation of the candidates is based on the information communicated by the NSOs concerned. The texts of motivation in the second half are presented in their entirety. ELECTION PROCEDURE Elections will be held at the World Scout Youth Forum in Slovenia to elect six Youth Advisors for a period of three years (2014-2017). A Youth Advisor is not eligible for re-election. Voting papers will be distributed to each delegation having voting rights at the Forum. Nothing may be entered on the voting paper except the number of votes cast for each candidate. Voting will be by secret ballot. The number of votes cast in favour of each candidate will be announced. For more than a century, Scouting has offered young people the opportunity to develop life skills through the Scout Method, empowering them to be active citizens in their communities. Today, our Movement continues to grow all around the world. More than 50 million young people, supported by dedicated volunteers, take part in Scouting activities, programmes, events, and campaigns delivered through 170 National Scout Organizations. The impact of this youth-led and volunteer-driven educational movement is truly remarkable. Brazil has no single league owing to her enormous amount of territory with its twenty states. Each state has its own respective league and it was in i960 that a single Nation­ al Championship League was formed whereby the winner of each of the individual leagues qualified for the Brazilian Club Championship. At the moment the two most powerful State Leagues are those of Rio de Janeiro: which boasts such fine clubs as Flamingo; Vasco da Gama; Botafogo and Fluminese, whereas in opposition in the Sao Paulo League, we have famous teams like Santos; Sao Paulo; Corinthians and Portugesa. Throughout the world man has written and discussed all the good and bad points concerning 'the game and its supporters, but they are all in agreement that one would find it very difficult to match the Latins and in particular the Brazilians, in their zest for the game. With soccer having made Its mark in England in the 1860's, it was to the son of English residents in Sao Paulo, Charles Miller, that the distinction fell of introducing the game to the Brazilians. Born in Sao Paulo, Charles Miller had returned to England for his education.On its completion he returned to Brazil and in his luggage he carried two of the new type of footballs which were used back home in the game called soccer.
