HANKY-PANKY IN THE MID-EASTi The Government of Fujeira Post Office has sent out several com muniques reguarding their stamp issues of the past year. The first letter stated that only the Post Office of Fujeira handles Fujeira stamps and no agents have or ever have been appointed to distribute new issues. All new issues are sold only by the Fujeira Post Office and any other stamps distributed through Beirut are illegal and not authorized by Fujeira. The following sport stamps are the only ones issued by Fujeira during 1970: World Football Championship Contest, Mexico. Issued 1 June i970 consisting of five denominations: 1R, 1.50R, 2.50R, 3R and ij-R plus a 12R souvenir sheet. A postage series commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Olympics consisting of 25dh, 50dh, 1R and 2R value stamps. An airmail series issued for the Munich Olympic Games of four values was also issued on 13 June 1970. The Fujeira Post Office advised that all other labels were il legally privately printed and have never been used on legal mail of Fujeira and are spurious and without postal validity. For those who wish to purchase their stamps directly from Fujeira can write to: Post Office of Fujeira, Fujeira, Trucial States, Ara bian Gulf. It seems that this same outfit in the Mid-East has also been is suing "stamps" from the so-called countries of and the Kingdom of Yemen. Many of these issues are on cover with spurious cancellations from Fujeira, Dubai and Via Sharjah etc. The Fujeira Post Office states that the following sport set is illegal: a set of six postage values inscribed Football World Champ ionship 1970, Mexico. The values are lOdh, 20dh, 1R & 2R. The values on the other two stamps are illegible. This set was "issued" on 25 July 1970. This is all the information that has been given to date. I would suggest that sport collectors avoid buying ANY stamps from this area until the status of this region is cleared up.

- Bob Bruce - "Scott" and "Gibbons" simply refuse to print data on the issues of certain countries while "Minkus" is very cautious about the imper forate issues of these same countries. "Yvert" offers only partial information on all issues. This forces heavy reliance on "Michel" which is notoriously slow in coverage. Since this report covers very "modern" philatelic items, there are many gaps.

Page 9 THE PRESIDENT

Our members have done well lately In the Philatelic Exhibitions around the world. Bill Smithett won the Cuy-Lor Top ical Plaque for his "First Sports Stamps Issued for World Wide Sporting Events". Morris Rosen took a gold, at SEPAD, for his "Olympic Games 1896-1942". The J.S.P has taken two awards in the last few months - a bronze at the Chicago Philate lic Society in Chicago and another bronze at EXFILCA, the International in Caracas. The Caracas show was rewarding for several of us. I took a silver for my "Olympic Soccer", and another silver was Barbara T. Williams won by Juan Torras Segu, for his "Cultural Legend of Suain in Mexico". A bronze was awarded to Jose Turu Carol, for his "World Soccer Cup" I am trying to complete our research library, and we are missing the following issues of Topical Time, published by the A.T.A. If any one would like to donate the following copies, will you please let me know: #81-83, 90-92, 111-117. I am finally getting around to mounting my 1968-69 issues. If you collect Gymnastics, Fencing, Weight Lifting, Boxing or Wrestling, and need the singles out of sets, let me know, as I don't mount any of these sports. I am planning on attending SOJEX, in Atlantic City, in April, so I will hope to see some of you there. And as for you Texans—I will be in San Antonio, in August, for your APS Convention. How about that! Now you know why I keep refering to eating Hamburgers most of the time. I am trying to subsidize the airlines.
