Did you know that students age 5 to 21 who are enrolled in DC public school, public charter school or private school can ride Metrobus, Metrorail and DC Circulator to school and school-related activities in DC for FREE? Program Eligibility To be eligible, students must meet these three qualifi cations: 1 Resident of the District of Columbia 2 Age 5 to 21 Enrolled in an elementary or secondary 3 public, private, charter or parochial school located within the District; or a “Ward of DC” through the Foster Care System. 2 What’s new this school year? ● The Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card has a new look with the same great benefi ts as last year. Request a Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card from your Card Administrator at your school. How do I use my card? Tap your Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card on the faregate or farebox target on Metrorail, Metrobus or DC Circulator. Be sure to tap your Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card by itself. Flashing the card to ride Metrorail, Metrobus or DC Circulator is never permitted. What if I lose my card? Request a new Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card from your Card Administrator at your school. The lost card will be reported to Metro and no longer be active. You will not be charged for a replacement Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card, but must pay regular fare to ride Metrorail, Metrobus and DC Circulator until your new card arrives. Can I add value to my Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card? No – You cannot add value to your Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card. When does my old card expire? You need to replace the old card by 9/30/2019. 6 No card, no free ride If you forget or lose your Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card, you must pay the regular fare to ride Metrorail, Metrobus or DC Circulator until you fi nd or replace your Kids Ride Free SmarTrip® card.
