Further information about the various elements of this software can be found on the Texthelp website (www.texthelp.com) This software is used increasingly across the school - primarily to support pupils with literacy difficulties – but as you will see from the website, many of its features have the potential to enhance the learning of all pupils – from the most able to those who face substantial barriers to learning. If you are interested in installing this software on your home computer please contact Alan Millar (Principal Teacher – Additional Support for Learners) – [email protected] . Unfortunately we only have a Windows compatible version at this moment in time, although a free 30 days trial of the tablet app can be found at http://www.texthelp.com/UK/rwtablets 3D Paper mache peacock Rebekah Scott S1 3D paper mache meerkat Sian Hay S1 Paper mache peacock Jodie Henderson and Evie Gray S2 3 S5 Induction The S5 Induction took place at Thainstone House Hotel on Wednesday, 3 June. We had 3 presentations by 4 speakers in the morning: Sgt Alison Durward from Police Scotland presented a CSI style ‘Act Now’ scenario based workshop. Michael Scott from ‘Student Award Agency Scotland’ presented information on funding for higher and further education. Yva Yortson and Keith Bell (young business owners) presented a ‘Myth and Myth Busting’ presentation on owning your own business. In the afternoon the Guidance staff spoke with their pupils about the expectations and requirements of the senior school and handed out timetables. We would like to thank Thainstone House Hotel and in particular Claire and Neil for all their help in the preparation for and during the day. S6 Induction This year’s S6 Induction took place at Robert Gordon University on Monday, 8 June. We were welcomed with Costa coffees and time to have a look at the social areas. The day then consisted of lectures on Personal Statement Writing, Choosing a University or College, Campus Tours, mini lectures on Sports Science and Architecture. There was also a presentation by students from RGU who have just finished their degree. The initial feedback from the pupils is that the day was a great success and it has taken away any worries about attending university or college at the end of their schooling. We would like to thank RGU for hosting the day and in particular a big thank you to Alison and Ellie who organised and ran the day. Mrs Hepburn 3D Paper Mache Dog Josh Allan S1 Inspiration and Aspiration for S5 and S6 Students On 10 June, senior students were treated to an inspirational talk by Bob Keillor, CEO of Wood Group. Bob had spent a career in the oil and gas industry picking up many awards for Entrepreneurship, Business and Leadership along the way. His talk covered key qualities and attributes for success but he surprised the audience by identifying kindness as the key to success. He exemplified this from his own experience and challenged seniors to actively look for opportunities to be unexpectedly kind. 4 SQA News All SQA exams within the SQA diet have now been completed. This has been the first presentation of the new Higher qualifications and we await the results on 4 August. Our young people in S4-6 have been a credit to the school in their preparation for the exams and their conduct in the exam hall has been exemplary. Miss Grant undertook a full evaluation of the exam procedures with staff and the chief invigilator, all of whom have praised our young people in their mature and focused approach in this important time. Results will be issued to S4-6 pupils on Tuesday 4 August and if there are any issues or queries then please contact the school which will be open during this time.

ELLON ACADEMY WEEKLY INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/CARERS To: All Parents/Carers From: Pauline Buchan, Rector Subject: Weekly Information Up-date Date: Friday 28th May 2021 ___________________________________________________________________________ Quote of the Week beginning Monday 31.5.21 We have now completed week 5 of our assessment block and staff continue to be busy with marking, feedback, and moderation. As you will be aware, the Director of Education Laurence Findlay issued a letter regarding the release of Provisional Grades to pupils by Wednesday 23rd June and we are confident we will meet that deadline. Here is the letter from Mr Findlay: Dear Parent/Carer, National Qualifications 2021 Further to my letter dated 1 April 2021, and as we move toward the latter stages of assessment evidence gathering under the SQA Alternative Certificate Model, I wish to provide you with an update regarding the remaining weeks. Firstly, I am pleased to report that Aberdeenshire received extremely positive feedback on the manner in which our processes have been developed and implemented. This scrutiny activity was undertaken by Education Scotland in their National Review of the implementation of the Alternative Certificate Model. Publication of this report by Education Scotland is expected shortly. Throughout this term, while assessment evidence gathering has been ongoing, young people will have been kept informed of their progress by their teachers through learning conversations. Provisional grades based on demonstrated attainment remain subject to the completion of the relevant quality assurance processes both within and between schools which will continue into June. Once the process and all stages of determining Provisional Grades is complete, young people will be provided by their school with a collation of the grades being submitted to the SQA.

Item: 8 Page: 27 Education & Children’s Services REPORT TO EDUCATION & CHILDREN’S SERVICES COMMITTEE – 21 MARCH 2019 LEARNING ESTATES STRATEGY: UPDATE 1 Recommendations The Committee is recommended to: 1.1 Note and comment on progress regarding the continued development of the Learning Estate (as detailed in Appendix 1). 2 Background / Discussion 2.1 Work Beyond Aberdeenshire The work of the Learning Estates Team is continuing to be recognised beyond Aberdeenshire. The Quality Improvement Manager (QIM) delivered a session at the Scottish Education Buildings Conference in November, 2018, to showcase the work of the Aberdeenshire Primary Brief. The QIM is now the lead for Sustaining Education across the Northern Alliance. This will ensure best practice will continue to be shared and sought to benefit learners, staff and communities within Aberdeenshire. 2.2 The Learning Estates Team manages and prioritises budgets for the following: • Educational enhancements • Capital projects for Education and Children’s Service (E&CS) • 1140 Early Learning and Childcare projects In May, 2018, the budgets for Improved Disabled Access and Support for Learning were also moved to the Learning Estates Team. 2.3 The temporary accommodation review and implementation is continuing; a briefing is also provided in Appendix 2. This is in accordance with the strategic principles as set out by the Learning Estates Board: • Restricting the use of temporary accommodation to the solution of short-term capacity problems. • Phasing out the use of existing temporary accommodation as soon as is reasonably possible. 2.4 Priorities for 2019/20 Officers are currently focussing on the priority areas discussed below in 2.5 – 2.14.

  • Term 3 Newsletter 2018-2019 Head Teacher’S Reflections
Term 3 Newsletter 2018-2019 Head Teacher’s Reflections Thank you for taking an interest in Inverurie Academy through reading the School Newsletter for Spring 2019! Looking back, a great deal has changed visually in the space of a year! Then Now Ground was just being broken in March 2018 for the new Inverurie Community Campus. Contrasted with this, in the last fortnight, students were able to stand (one year later) on the roof of the new building as it reaches the half-way point. Then Now In March 2018, we were planning towards the introduction of the new Inverurie Academy School Uniform. This is now embedded and a proud part of our school identity. Then (Class of 2018) Now (Class of 2019) We have also now just marked one of the leaver events with the S6 School Prom. The Class of 2019 had a fantastic evening at Pittodrie House Hotel on Friday, 15 March 2019. We are also working hard to support less visible but perhaps more important changes at Inverurie Academy. Our curriculum continues to evolve as we seek to make sure that young people have an experience that encourages ambition whilst also ensuring that all young people have a chance to achieve:- Our current S4 are coming towards the end of a year where many are sitting seven national qualifications rather than six in previous years. Our options for 2019-20 now include at least a dozen new National Progression Awards, Skills For Work Courses and Foundation Apprenticeships. These courses will allow students to find new areas of interest and achieve with new courses where the course award is based on continuous assessment rather than final examination.
