Trebullett Methodist Church

As I write, we are in our second lockdown and although Trebullett Methodist Chapel had resumed its services in accordance with the Government guidelines, the chapel is currently closed until the second lockdown is lifted. However, this does not mean that the Church, being the people of God, is not still being active. We continue to hold Sunday services on zoom, as well as coffee mornings, Bible studies and prayer meetings. Anyone is welcome to join us at any of these meetings. We would love to see you whether it is for a coffee and a chat…although I’m afraid you have to bring your own coffee!...or whether it is at one of our services in the com- fort of your own home. Alternatively, you may have a prayer request that you would like us to include in our weekly prayer meetings. Whatever it is, please do get in contact by either phoning or emailing me on 01566 7829821 or [email protected] and I can provide you with the zoom links. In addition, the Meth- odist Church offers a free phone service for prayer, just dial 0808 281 2514 .

Like so many places Christmas will be very different this year but it is certainly not cancelled! If lockdown is lifted then we plan to hold services on 6th and 20th Decem- ber at 11:00 am. The service on 20th December will be Christmas themed and if you would like to come along then please make sure that you phone Jeremy Stephens on 01566 782008. However, whether lockdown is lifted or not there will still be the opportunity to join us in celebrating Christmas with the various Christmas services we have planned on zoom—please contact me for the link for these services.

6th December 6:30 pm Christingle Service 13th December 6:30 pm Advent Reflection 20th December 6:30 pm Carol Service

When we reflect on the Christmas story, we remember that the angels repeatedly said “Do not be afraid” and that Mary and Joseph ended up being on their own, separated from their families. However, they were never on their own completely because God was with them. He became incarnate, writing himself into history, through the birth of Jesus – Immanuel “God is with us”. I pray that you may not be afraid, but may know the presence and peace of God this Christmas and on behalf of the people of Trebullett Methodist Chapel I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas.

News from Trekenner School

Our First Term Back by Niall, Archie, Safia and Tatiana

After a long miserable lockdown, we were both excited and worried to go to school. We had a new headteacher, we hadn’t been at school for months and we had no idea what to expect. We were all worried that things might be a bit boring and difficult now that we were moving into Year Five and Year Six but we were wrong. First, we had a really exciting World War One launch day. During this exciting day we all got to dress up as soldiers, nurses and other people from the war. During the day, we sang songs, made soup and endured Mr Horn’s grueling bootcamp. The best bit, however, was dig- ging our very own trenches.

The fun continued for the whole term. It was hard work at times, but we all tried our best and used our new learning powers to be the best learners we can be. Some of the highlights of the term were our treasure hunts outside, drama activities about war horse and outdoor maths challenges. However, there was one thing that stuck in all of our minds- when we got to see and dissect some real organs.

The first lesson we did this, we just looked at the heart. When we touched the inside of the heart, it felt really heavy and rubbery- we were really sur- prised about this. We got to see all of the different four chambers and it was surprising how much it looked like the diagram that we saw on the board. Another interesting thing about it was that if we squirted water into the vena cava, it came out of another artery when we pumped it. We thought that nothing could beat the heart but then the next week we had a chance to look at a pair of lungs, a liver and a heart all joined together like they would be in the body. We were all really excited to see what would happen. The lungs felt soft and squidgy and amazingly when we put our fingers along the inside, it felt like it was popping like bubble wrap. We were really surprised and fascinated when Mr Wheeler blew into the lungs and they inflated like they would in real life.

It has been an amazing first term back and we are excited for the rest of our time back at school.
