Holland Estate is managed from a Local Housing Centre currently based in a temporary office in Toynbee Street but will relocate to Commercial Street in early 2015 when the new EastendHomes Head Office will be completed as part of the Denning Point Redevelopment scheme. EastendHomes owns 383 homes on Holland Estate, of which 209 have been sold under Right-to-Buy. A significant number of these have been let out on the private rented market. www.eastendhomes.net T h e a r e a The Spitalfields area has a great variety of facilities, which reflect the diverse, multi -cultural creative aspects of the East End. The area has many shops, some of which are owned by EastendHomes. The area has been known for stocking vibrant, vintage novelty items. For food shopping there are local independent shops and two national supermarket chains with express outlets in the area. Brick Lane, the heart of the city’s Bangladeshi Sylheti community, has two specialist Bengali supermarkets as well as numerous specialist Bengali shops. Petticoat Lane Market is located in Wentworth Street and focuses on clothes, fashion goods and luggage. It is open during the week but is busiest on Sundays when it draws large numbers of both Londoners and tourists. The area is well served by primary schools, and the nearest secondary school is Swanlea in Brady Street. Holland Estate is well served by local public transport with Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations being within easy walking distance. Several bus routes also run from Aldgate. The Holland Estate Driving And Parking Commercial Street forms the eastern boundary of the congestion charging zone so all EastendHomes properties within in the Holland area ( except Wheler House) fall inside the zone. Congestion charges apply at a reduced rate for residents living inside the zone who can get a 90% discount There is limited off street parking provision on the estate, with: • 70 residents’ parking bays for rent • additional underground parking bays for rent which are under Did You Know? Regenerating the estate More new “social rent” family housing is being built on the development site at Denning Point with the first properties due to handed over in August 2013. Bedroom sizes will vary from 1 – 5 bedrooms. These are: • Target under-occupaon of larger accommodaon to complement the Overcrowding Reducon Iniave • Work with the Brick Lane Safer Neighbourhood Team and Street Rescue to tackle the issues of specific concerns about rough sleepers and drug taking, as idenfied as concerns by the Holland Estate Mnagement Board. • Promote the Safe & Well scheme to elderly and vulnerable residents .
