I trust you all were able to manage some quality time with family during the summer months and you are now refreshed to start working to reach boys and young men for our saviour. It’s been a busy year in BB as always. Your executive continue to look at way in which we can do things differently and we took some time preparing and discussing an Battalion action plan and a health check. All officers should now be part of at least one whatapp group with the battalion. A subcommittee is looking at the format of our annual parade and particularly the service and we should see changes in October. The executive have approved the setting up of a heritage society with the aim of recruiting 60 boys into BB during the next three years and 1. to record, display and digitise all records from the Battalion with the purpose of preserving, exhibiting and celebrating our local history with the community. 2. To train volunteers in archiving, 3. To create a virtual museum The museum was launched on the website on 1st August and will be updated as we get more donations. Over 300 items have been logged and photographed and thank you to the officers who assisted. We would welcome invites to bring the display to your company. The 2019/20 session has again a selection of events both sporting and social; I encourage officers to attend and to encourage the boys to enter the competitions. We held a very successful BBQ and treasure Hunt in May and over 30 attended. The tri annual Meeting of the battalion will be held on 7th May 2020 and we need to start praying for and about appointing a new executive. The website prayer list has been updated and we encourage you to use the prayers as we pray for Boys’ brigade. The website continues to be our main communication tool. Please make sure you keep up to date by visiting the site regularly and if you are involved with competitions or events please email a report to [email protected] so that the site is kept up to date. I would like to express my appreciation to all officers who worked at District, Company and Battalion level throughout the last session. God bless you in this new session. The Executive would like to express thanks to all the Officers, Leaders and Helpers who work hard each and every week within the Battalion, the Executive appreciates the loyalty and work that is carried out with the aim of the Boys’ Brigade, the Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom amongst boys, being the centre of this work. The Executive would also like to express thanks to all those involved in duties at NID level. A special thank you goes to all the Officers who work tirelessly with the young men at Queen’s Badge level, Duke of Edinburgh level and at KGVI levels. The Executive would also like to express thanks and appreciation to all those Officers, Leaders and Helpers who for one reason or another are standing down this session. The Executive wish God’s Blessing in whatever they do. Without Officers Leaders and Helpers, Companies have difficulty operating. The Executive would also like to thank those who will be continuing in new roles come September. The Executive would also like to thank Dr. John Cathcart the Battalion Training Officer for organising the Grade 111 Leadership course and would also like to thank those in 1st Whitehead and 1st Ballyclare who held these two courses. On Sunday 7th October 2018 we held our Annual Battalion Church Parade and Officers Dedication Service in the town of Carrickfergus. The Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Council attended the Church Service. We were again blessed with dry weather and an attendance of 16 out of 22 Companies being represented, it was very rewarding to witness Joymount Presbyterian Church, Carrickfergus filled with boys and Officers from all over the East Antrim area. There were over 400 members on parade, a truly wonderful sight. Congratulations to 1st Larne and 1st Raloo Junior Sections who were jointly awarded the Fitzell Trophy and 1st Carrickfergus Company and 3rd Carrickfergus Company who were jointly awarded the McCune Trophy. Congratulations also to 1st Ballylinney who were awarded the Sarah Gardner Trophy for the Ballyclare area and to 1st Raloo and 1st Larne who were jointly awarded the Sarah Gardner Trophy for the Larne area. During the year there have been many competitions and events across all sections. All these events and competitions could not be held if it were not for the dedication of all the Officers who arrange each event. Thank you to everyone. Well done to all the boys within all Sections who took part and congratulations to all the winners. It would be unfair to single any particular Company out. As like last year, a Christian Education examination was held; it is disappointing that only a small number of Companies within the Battalion participate in this examination. Congratulations to 1st Ballynure who were awarded the Fitzell Christian Education Trophy. During the year the Battalion considered a Health Check and some of the considerations discussed were as follows :- Company Survey Company Visitation Strategic Plan for the future The Battalion is also looking to set up a Heritage Site and plans are in place for this to happen so that the history of the Battalion can be preserved and to display this Heritage information about B.B.

A programme of events including a Civic Reception at City Hall to mark the 125th Anniversary of The Boys Brigade in Ireland, the Annual General Meeting of The Boys' Brigade and a Sunday morning service is being organised. As this is the AGM of the Brigade I trust East Antrim Battalion will be well represented. I will be there so if you wish to record a vote you can do so via proxy. The Battalion has continued to function with less meetings but hopefully still communicating with officers via the website, quarterly newsletters and facebook. If you don’t receive this information like us on facebook and register your e-mail on the website. Please remember we still hold two meeting per session and you can find the dates below. The website continues to be our main communication tool and we have had over 1,000,000 hits in last year and averaging 2000 visitors a month. Please make sure you keep up to date by visiting the site regularly and if you are involved with competitions or events please email a report to [email protected] so that the site is kept up to date. In April we held a very successful quiz evening in Ballynure and that event replaced our AGM.
