The 2021 PFL playoffs kick off on Friday with the welterweight and lightweight division semi-finals. It all goes down from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The first PFL playoff card of the year is headlined by the former Bellator welterweight champion, Rory MacDonald, as he takes on the 2019 PFL welterweight champion, Ray Cooper III. MacDonald is 4-3-1 since making his Bellator debut back in 2017, and is coming off a controversial decision loss to Gleison Tibau at PFL 6. Luckily for MacDonald, the first-round finish of Chris Millender propelled him into the playoff bracket. Cooper is 9-2-1 since making his PFL debut back in 2018, with eight of his nine PFL wins coming by way of stoppage. Cooper will look to capture the PFL welterweight championship for the second time in his career, having made the finals in both the 2018 and 2019 PFL playoffs. Ray Cooper III vs. Rory MacDonald Odds Online sportsbooks such as Wynnbet have the odds set for PFL 7’s main event. MacDonald comes in as the -140 betting favorite over Cooper, who is a +110 underdog on the comeback. For MacDonald, it’s the first time that he’s been lined at an affordable price since coming to the PFL. MacDonald cashed as a -520 favorite over Chris Millender in his PFL debut but lost his next fight to Gleison Tibau as a -900 betting favorite, the largest upset loss of his career. Ray Cooper III vs. Rory MacDonald: What time is the fight? The main card for PFL 7 starts at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Canadian audiences are able to catch the event via TSN2. With 24 fighters across six divisions, the 2021 PFL playoffs kicked off on Friday, August 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The first of three playoff events will feature the Welterweights and the Lightweights. Despite the fact that MMA is already unpredictable, it will certainly be interesting to raise $1 million for each champion winner. The main event was a welterweight semifinal between reigning champion Ray Cooper III and UFC veteran Rory MacDonald. Cooper won both of his regular season fights, and MacDonald should have if not for a controversial decision. The winner will face Magomed Magomedkerimov or Sadibou Sy in the final. Magomedkerimov only fought once this season, but a first-round finish put him in the playoffs. On the contrary, Sy went 1-0 with one no contest and ended up in the play-offs after top division Joao Zeferino had to withdraw. In the lightweight class, Clay Collard was pitted against Raush Manfio in a semifinal. Both fighters defeated Anthony Pettis in the regular season and are trying to build that momentum. Not only did they beat Pettis, but both fighters also go into the playoffs 2-0. The second lightweight fight in the semifinals was between Loik Radzhabov and Alex Martinez. These fighters fought earlier this year, with Radzhabov winning via split decision. That said, everything changes when a $1 million chance is on the line. While most people tuned in for the main card playoffs, the prelims were filled with fighters looking to impress fans before the season is over. Fighters to watch in the preliminaries were Gleison Tibau, Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Magomed Umalatov and Elvin Espinoza. All things considered, let’s take a look at the full results and highlights for the first edition of the 2021 PFL playoffs. .

  • Easthope Literary Into Cultural Studies File
LITERARY INTO CULTURAL STUDIES Antony Easthope For fifty years the paradigm of literary studies has relied on an opposition between the canon and its other, popular culture. The theory wars of the 1980s changed all that. With the advent of post-structuralism and the ‘death of literature’ the opposition between high and popular culture became untenable, transforming the field of inquiry from literary into cultural studies. Antony Easthope argues that the new discipline of cultural studies must have a new, decentred paradigm for the common study of canonical and popular texts together. Through a detailed criticism of competing theory, including British cultural studies, New Historicism and cultural materialism, he shows how this new study should—and should not—be done. Easthope’s exploration of the problems, possibilities and politics of cultural studies takes on the often evaded question of literary value; also in a reading of Conrad’s Heart of Darkness alongside Burroughs’ Tarzan of the Apes he demonstrates how the opposition between high and popular culture can be deconstructed. Antony Easthope is Professor in English and Cultural Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. He has held visiting fellowships at Wolfson College, Oxford, the University of Adelaide and at the Commonwealth Center for the Study of Literary and Cultural Change at the University of Virginia. His publications include Poetry as Discourse (1983), The Masculine Myth in Popular Culture (1986) and British Post-Structuralism (1988). The two movies studied were "Three Decisive Campaigns" (A Chinese Trilogy) and the American science fiction movie, "Jurassic Park." The modified approach from Bandura's modeling theory and film semiotics was used to derive amore adequate explanation of modeling from the relationships among narrative, culture, and values. Results indicated that the narrative and cultural characteristics of the film characters at the levels of text, structure, and logic provide some basic prerequisites for model selection and preference. From the viewpoint of modeling, characters in the movies provide three main kinds of knowledge for vicarious learning:(1) social role norm;(2) the environmental contingency; and (3) the vicarious reinforcing experience. Findings suggest that different genres not only influence what kinds of value models are presented, but also how they are presented and how theyare able to convince the viewer.
