The WIFFLE Ball Bonanza originally started with just 12 players. Now, in its 12th year, the one-day extravaganza draws nearly 200 players and just over 300 spectators. That’s 500 friends, family members, and strangers enjoying America’s favorite backyard game. These people are like your fun, but yet a little whacky next-door neighbor…we can’t get rid of them!
In addition to hanging out with good friends, chowing down on a few dogs, and hitting home runs last year, these Looney Tunes raised $25,000 for those battling Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Funds generated from the Bonanza benefit the My 1 Friend fund established at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. My 1 Friend supports adolescent T1D patients by providing them proper medical identification and safety education regarding the disease. Furthermore, My 1 Friend focuses on finding a cure for T1D.
Since 2012, the Bonanza has raised $75,000 for those with T1D and that makes me wonder, can we do it? Can we go back-to-back $25,000 years? Does this once silly, totally bizarre WIFFLE Ball tournament hit the century mark, $100,000 total? You tell me.
