Tenderers are requested to get well versed with the tender conditions/ guidelines written hereunder. 4.2 Time along with quality of work is the essence of this contract. SITE INVESTIGATION BY THE TENDERER: 4.3 It is assumed that these inferences are made after local inquiries regarding the above said matters and also the probable and possible stipulations, delays, risk contingent upon the nature of sub surface conditions, hindrances or interference to or with the execution and completion of works as per tender conditions and has arrived at his own estimate in respect of the rate quoted. 4.4 It is also assumed that the Tenderer has also taken into consideration all possible contingencies and likely problems and allied matters, incidental thereto and ancillary thereof affecting the execution and completion of work. Any failure by the Tenderer in estimating the difficulty or cost properly shall not relieve him of the responsibility of completing or satisfactorily performing the work. 4.5 It may be noted that the estimated cost is only a rough assessment by the “BSNL” and the “BSNL” does not link itself to its full correctness and neither the “BSNL” can be held accountable for any variations, if any found actually. The tenderers are required to make their own detailed assessment and shall quote accordingly. SIMULTANEOUS WORK IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS 4.6 Work in each route (or part thereof, if awarded so), will be treated as a separate work covered by this contract. However, if the tenderer is awarded work simultaneously in more than one route, the tenderer should have enough capacity and resources to carry out the work simultaneously in all the routes awarded to him. 4.7 Tenderers who are confident of ensuring the progress of the work in the time stipulated in NIT, by employing the required resources, men and materials may only participate in this tender offer. The attention of the Tenderer is specifically drawn to the conditions regarding realization of Compensation for delay and slow progress, which may be strictly enforced by the Divisional Engineer as stipulated in the relevant clauses. 4.8 It is to be specifically noted that, the “BSNL” wants the work to be done simultaneously in as many routes as possible, so that the project can be completed in the shortest possible time. Keeping the interest of the “BSNL” in mind, the competent authority has full discretion to award the entire work or part of the work in any route to one or more Tenderers, or to carry out the work by “BSNL” itself or through any other agency by inviting tender/ quotations or by nominations from other reputed and experienced Contractors or by any other means.

  • Innovation System and Increasing Reformulation Practices in the Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sector of South India
asian medicine 9 (04) 36–7 brill.com/asme Innovation System and Increasing Reformulation Practices in the Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sector of South India Harilal Madhavan Azim Premji University [email protected] Abstract This article emphasises the role of domestic knowledge capabilities and networks in shaping an incentive structure for innovation and research. I combine an analysis of in-house research activities by ayurvedic firms in South India with their inter-firm and inter-institutional relations in the establishment of a new innovation regime aiming to promote growth in the ayurvedic sector. The tensions typical of this competitive envi- ronment are discussed by paying attention to the absence of contingent regulatory practices and the recent efforts in this direction as illustrated by the use of the ‘Magical Remedies Act’ to curtail the claims of many firms in the market. The ayurvedic pharma- ceutical company Oushadhi owned by the Government of Kerala as well as the private firms SNA Oushadhasala Pvt. Ltd. and Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala Pvt. Ltd. (all from Thrissur district of Kerala) are analysed to delineate their research priorities and bottle- necks for innovations. The data of this ayurvedic sector is contrasted with the case of the Kani tribe and the ways in which their traditional knowledge has been reformulated into an industrial ayurvedic product. Through this exploration, the paper attempts to offer an economic explanation for increasing reformulation practices in Ayurveda. Keywords Ayurveda – bioprospection –

  • A Framework for Identifying Products Suitable for Production by Micro Enterprises
A FRAMEWORK FOR IDENTIFYING PRODUCTS SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION BY MICRO ENTERPRISES Submitted to Kerala Research Programme on Local Level Development KRISHNAKUMAR.K.K September 2004 Centre for Socio-economic & Environmental Studies Prasanthi Road, Palarivattom, Kochi-682 025 Ph: 0484-345306, Telefax: 0484-533145 Email: [email protected] A FRAMEWORK FOR IDENTIFYING PRODUCTS SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION BY MICRO ENTERPRISES ABSTRACT One of the most important factors affecting the sustainability of a micro enterprise would be the identification of right product ideas. The present study attempts to develop a framework for identifying products which could be produced by micro enterprises promoted by SHGs. Micro enterprises face several constraints such as the inability to invest heavily and low skill sets available. The framework addresses the issues of profitability, marketability and pricing. The framework explores issues such as space for a new entrant in the market place, the level of consumption, competition in the market, entry and exit barriers, brand loyalty, willingness to switch over to products of micro enterprises, possibility of niche marketing and alternate channels of marketing, presence of substitute products, possible geographical reach, presence of other competing SHGs, possibility of marketing along with other products etc. The study suggests the importance of forming an umbrella marketing organization. It also emphasises on the need for ensuring the quality in production. By their very nature, production under micro enterprises could be happening in different homes and ensuring uniformity and standards is a major problem. The work force has to be trained on the importance of quality standards and they have to be made aware that they are competing very often with organized players and only quality will ensure the very survival of the enterprise.

CENSUS OF INDIA 1971 SERIES--9 KERALA PART IX-A ADMINISTRATIVE ATLAS K. NARAYANAN OF THE INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE DIRECTOR OF CENSUS OPERATIONS KERALA 1976 3/19-i FOREWORD In order to ensure complete coverage at a population count, the Census Organization obtains or prepares up-to-date detailed maps of all administrative units in the country on the eve of a census. Though in several parts of the country maps of the districts, taluks etc., are available with the State Revenue or Survey authorities, often times, they required to be brought up-to-date and they also varied greatly in scale. One also found it difficult to secure a complete or compact set of all these maps from State authorities. The Census Organization took upon itself the task of updating of the administrative maps and the standadization of scales essentially to meet its own requirements of coverage at the census and analysis of data. Standardization of symbol was also attempted to depict certain features such as the Statejdistrictjtaluk boundades, administrative headquarters, national and state highways and other roads, markets and mandis, post and telegraph offices, travellers' bungalows, hospitals, etc. In each of the District Census Handbooks (there are 356 districts in the country) the district map as wdl as the taluk maps will be printed. While these administrative maps, prepared with great amount of care and effort, served the purposes of the census extremely well, the 1971 Census Organization felt that these would be invaluable for many an administrative purpose and for planning and also to the scholars who might like t~! utilize these maps for various studies.

Apart from the fact that it is the first systematic attempt as far as Kerala is concerned, its particular value lay in presenting a record of these rapidly vanishing cultural heritage. The Census report on fairs and festivals consists of two publications, Part VII B (i), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala containing the descriptive portion and Part VII B (ii), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala-Statements giving the tables relating to the fairs and festivals. The first part has already been published in 1966. It is the second part that is presented in this book. This publication is entirely a compilation of the statements furnished by various agencies like the Departments of Health Services, Police, Local Bodies, Revenue and the Devaswom Boards of Travancore and Cochin. This is something like a directory of fairs and festivals in the State arranged according to di'>tricts and taluks, which might excite the curiosity of the scholars who are interested in investigating the religiou, centres and festivals.
