As per the definitive agreement, LVMH will acquire Tiffany for $135 per share in cash, in a transaction with an equity value of approximately €14.7 billion or $16.2 billion. The acquisition of Tiffany will strengthen LVMH’s position in jewellery and further increase its presence in the US… • Reliance Retail acQuires ITC’s John Players • India’s Reliance Retail (RRL) signed an agreement with ITC Ltd to acquire its mid-segment menswear brand John Players. Launched in 2002, the brand will boost RRL’s fashion and apparels portfolio. The brand was acquired by RRL for `150-200 crore. The acquisition may also improve ITC’s non-tobacco FMCG business margins. Reliance gets the assets of John Players, which includes the brand and distribution rights through 750 stores, including 65 exclusive franchise outlets. ITC has an ambitious target of touching `1 trillion in revenues from non-cigarettes FMCG business— worth over `11,000 crore annually—by 2030 and expects the segment to drive its revenue in the next decade. • Dubai-based VIC buys Roberto Cavalli Group • UK’s CMA blocks merger between Sainsbury’s, Asda • Boohoo acquires British brands Karen Millen & Coast • Boohoo completed an asset purchase agreement for renowned British brands Karen Millen and Coast. The brands were put up for sale by Icelandic bank, Kaupthing. Founded in Manchester in 2006, Boohoo is an inclusive and innovative brand targeting young, value-orientated customers. Boohoo has acquired the online business and all associated intellectual property rights from the administrators of Karen Millen Fashions and Karen Millen Retail, both of which entered into administration on August 6, 2019, for £18.2 million, funded by the group’s existing cash resources. • Indian women’s fashion start-up Fashor recently announced raising $1 million in a pre-series A funding round led by venture capital firm Sprout Venture Partners. The round also saw participation from IP Ventures, Venture Catalysts and other investors. The funds will be used to accelerate growth and expand brand presence, both in online and offline channels. Chennai-based Fashor was founded by Vikram Kankaria and Priyanka Kankaria in 2017. The company offers trendy Indian and Indo-western clothing for women. • BFC Fashion Awards 2019 • Signatories of the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action Award recently received the award for positive change at the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) The Fashion Awards 2019 in London. The brand of the year award went to Italian luxury goods and high fashion brand Bottega Veneta, whose Daniel Lee received the award for the designer of the year. The award for business leader was bagged by Remo Ruffini for Italian apparel and lifestyle brand Moncler, while Daniel Lee of Bottega Veneta was declared the accessories designer of the year. Hairstylist Sam McKnight received the Isabella Blow award for fashion creator and Giorgio Armani received the outstanding achievement award. The award for the British emerging talent for menswear was received by Bethany Williams and that for the British emerging talent for womenswear was bagged by Rejina Pyo. Both have their namesake designer labels, according to a BFC press release. Kim Jones received the British designer of the year menswear award for Dior Men and Daniel Lee bagged the same for womenswear for Bottega Veneta. The trailblazer award was received by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen label. Each winner was given a unique Swarovski crystal trophy, designed by Welsh artist Ross Lovegrove. • India’s luxury products rental store Rent It Bae has acquired peer fashion rental services start-up Flyrobe to consolidate its operations, ramp up its omni-channel footprint and tap the overseas market. Both businesses are being merged and will operate under the brand Flyrobe, according to AARK World Pvt Ltd, which owns and operates Rent It Bae. • Ferrara, Italian luxury, has forayed in the Indian market to set new fashion benchmarks in the fabrics and textile industry. OCM, one of India’s largest fabric manufacturers, has a sprawling 37-acre complex that houses a new-age plant with an annual capacity of 8 million metres of fabric and an employee base of 1,900. The company’s ownership lies with the promoters of the Donear Group. • Zegna launches new concept boutique in New Delhi • Ermenegildo Zegna is a leading global luxury menswear brand founded in 1910 in Trivero, Italy, by Ermenegildo Zegna. Now with over 500 shops and 6,500 employees worldwide, and vertically integrated, Zegna is the leader in luxury menswear, and one of Italy’s dynamic family businesses. • Priyanka Chopra Jonas is Crocs’ global brand ambassador for the 2020 “Come As You Are” campaign. This Cros/Jonas partnership will be the joint collaboration to benefit the United Nations Children’s Fund (known as UNICEF). She will work closely with Crocs on a series of donations to aid children around the world. • Marimekko and Uniqlo, a Japanese global apparel retailer, have announced a collaboration for a new limited edition collection. The collection, that will be launched on November 28, 2019, is the second partnership between Marimekko and Uniqlo.
