THE NAT ADDERLEY QUINTET WITH ; EBONY JO-ANN WITH THE RUDY STEVENSON QUARTET TO OPEN BA}f'S NEW SERIES ON NOVEMBER 19

BAM's new jazz series, JAZZ ON A WINTER'S NITE, will open on Friday, November 19, 1982. Headlining the first concert of this three-part series will be the Nat Adderley Quintet, featuring alto saxophonist, Sonny Fortune.

Blues singer Ebony Jo-Ann, accompanied by the Rudy Stevenson Quartet, will complete the program, which will take place at 8pm and 10:30pm, in BAM's Lepercq Space.

Nat Adderley, cornetist, has been active on the jazz scene for more than a quarter of a century. Along with his brother, the late Cannonball, he established one of the most popular and long-lived bands in jazz history -- The Quintet, featuring Nat Adderley. He has also worked with jazz greats J.J. Johnson and . Nat Adderley is also a prolific composer and writer -- JIVE SAMBA, SERMONETTA and WORKSONG, being among his most popular compositions.

Ebony Jo-Ann won world recognition for her portrayal of Bessie Smith, in BESSIE SMITH, EMPRESS OF THE . She also appeared in the Broadway show, MAHALIA, in which she worked with Nat Adderley.

Rudy Stevenson, leader of the back-up quartet for Ms. Jo-Ann, has been the lead guitarist for Nina Simone, Thelma Houston, Stephanie Mills and The Fifth Dimension. He has also been the musical contractor for BUBBLIN' BROWN SUGAR, EUBIE, WHOOPIE and SOPHISTICATED LADIES.

JAZZ ON A WINTER'S NITE will continue on Friday, December 17, with the James Moody Quartet and The Sheila Jordon Duo, featuring Harvie Swartz; and on Friday, January 21, 1983 with Randy Weston's African Rhythms and pianist, French horn player, L. Sharon Freeman. Tickets to each concert are $10 and subscriptions to all three shows are only $20. Price includes all the free wine and hot cider customers can drink.
