Each day, children stream into the same school building, only to study separately, using separate textbooks, while learning in different languages. The ethnic Croatians from the suburbs are taught in the right side of the building. They are mostly Roman Catholics. The Bosnian Muslim students who live mostly in the city are taught in the left side. For many of the students, the split is an unwanted relic of Bosnia’s ethnic wars of the 1990s among Serbs, Croats and Muslims. “They don’t want us to socialize in school,” said Iman Maslic, 18, a Muslim student, ”so we go to cafes after class and hang out together there.” But unwanted or not, the divide is deepening in a Bosnia where nationalist politicians are again stoking ethnic rivalries.     Bosnia and Herzegovina Page 1 of 7 Bosnia and Herzegovina International Religious Freedom Report 2008 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the entity Constitutions of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (the Federation) and the Republika Srpska (RS) provide for freedom of religion; the Law on Religious Freedom also provides comprehensive rights to religious communities. These and other laws and policies contributed to the generally free practice of religion. The Government generally respected religious freedom in practice. Government protection of religious freedom improved slightly during the period covered by this report; however, local authorities continued at times to restrict religious freedom of minority religious groups. Societal abuses and discrimination based on religious affiliation, belief, or practice persisted. Discrimination against religious minorities occurred in nearly all parts of the country. The number of incidents targeting religious symbols, clerics, and property in the three ethnic majority areas decreased. Local religious leaders and politicians contributed to intolerance and an increase in nationalism through public statements. Religious symbols were often misused for political purposes. A number of illegally constructed religious objects continued to cause tension and conflict in various communities. The U.S. Government discusses religious freedom with the Government and leaders from the four traditional religious communities and emerging religious groups as part of its overall policy to promote human rights and reconciliation. The U.S. Embassy supported religious communities in their efforts to acquire permits to build new religious structures. The Embassy also assisted religious communities regarding restitution of property and supported several exchange, speaking, and cultural programs promoting religious freedom.

    DANUBE POLLUTION REDUCTION PROGRAMME NATIONAL REVIEWS 1998 BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry in cooperation with the Programme Coordination Unit UNDP/GEF Assistance DANUBE POLLUTION REDUCTION PROGRAMME NATIONAL REVIEWS 1998 BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry in cooperation with the Programme Coordination Unit UNDP/GEF Assistance Preface The National Reviews were designed to produce basic data and information for the elaboration of the Pollution Reduction Programme (PRP), the Transboundary Analysis and the revision of the Strategic Action Plan of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR). Particular attention was also given to collect data and information for specific purposes concerning the development of the Danube Water Quality Model, the identification and evaluation of hot spots, the analysis of social and economic factors, the preparation of an investment portfolio and the development of financing mechanisms for the implementation of the ICPDR Action Plan. For the elaboration of the National Reviews, a team of national experts was recruited in each of the participating countries for a period of one to four months covering the following positions: Socio-economist with knowledge in population studies, Financial expert (preferably from the Ministry of Finance), Water Quality Data expert/information specialist, Water Engineering expert with knowledge in project development. Each of the experts had to organize his or her work under the supervision of the respective Country Programme Coordinator and with the guidance of a team of International Consultants. The tasks were laid out in specific Terms of Reference. At a Regional Workshop in Budapest from 27 to 29 January 1998, the national teams and the group of international consultants discussed in detail the methodological approach and the content of the National Reviews to assure coherence of results.

Expected start of the Project is 15 August 2018. Mr. Avdic stressed out that presenting the project activities, methodology and implementation modalities to LPAC, is a formal precondition and underlined the importance of local partners role within this project. Presentation of the Project Document Project budget is EUR 100,000 and anticipated duration is 12 months starting from 15 August 2018 and ending on 14 August 2019. The project would use the Direct Implementation Modality (DIM). The Project Board will be comprised of the following institutions: Ministry of Security of BiH, Civil Protection Directorate/Administration of FBIH, Civil Protection Directorate/Administration of RS, the Czech Republic Humanitarian Aid and UNDP. Project would lean and build on vast and successful UNDP ORR efforts in the local communities. In particular, the project will be closely interlinked with all relevant on-going and planned ORR related projects to secure alignment of results, efficiency, avoid duplication of efforts and ensure contribution to overall strategic direction. The spiritual life of the citizens from the south of the province of Dalmatia (east Herzegovina) reflected in the respect for a significant number of cults. The religion of an ancient man from east Herzegovina is respresented, above all, by modest archeological findings and epigraph statues. It manifested itself in the respect for a significant number of cults that relied on Illyrian tradition, Roman and oriental deities. It is our wish, considering the limited budget, to use all available resources to ensure the maximum amount of foreign direct investment especially for the development of businesses, investment ambient, rural development and increase of the employment rate. We have increased our capacities to prepare and implement projects, established the local action group (LAG) and extended our cooperation with the regional development agency (REZ Zenica). The key for the future of the municipality are strategic development projects from economic, social and environmental branches, as well as, the construction of: entrepreneurial zones, business incubators, wastewater management facility, central district heating, tourism and recreation infrastructure, increase of energy efficiency and the increase in agricultural production. It is important to continuously work on attracting investors which will introduce new technologies, strengthen labour capacities, new jobs, and connect farmers and others with the aim to create products that are competitive in domestic and foreign markets. I have to mention that I am especially proud of the citizens of Maglaj, who besides all hardships decide to stay and fight for a better tomorrow.

SEECOF-18, MedCOF-9 Climate outlook for the 2018 winter season: Temperature and Precipitation According to the seasonal forecast based on tercile ranks and climate classification ratings, thermal conditions over the Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina for winter 2018 had been described by the following categories: above upper tercille over all the Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina wіth probability of 50% ( the portion 2, left). Figure1: Temp (left) and PRC tot (right) DJF18 Outlook For the southern area, along the coastal region, precipitation amounts had been predicted like below lower tercile value and “no clear signal” for the remaining part of the country (the portions 3 and 2, right). The Republika Srpska registered warm air thermal conditions and wery wet to extremely wet conditions over the most stations with acumulated snow cover greater than normal; The last winter season has been 11th warmest over the period 1952-2018 (7th warmest for the 1981-2018) Temperature, daily max, reached the first lowest value from 1961 (Bijeljina, Banja Luka, Doboj, Sokolac...) on several days from 25-28 feb. Lowest daily maximums Тxn were exceeded on 26-28 february Precipitation total reached 10th highest over the Southern and 5th max value over the rest in 137 years long data series. In Banja Luka, accumulated precipitation of 146mm, represents the second highest from 1862 years and differs from the absolute maximum (148mm;1889) just in 2mm. Snow depth on the end February days reached 2-3 highest value in the north-western part (Krupa na Uni, 96cm).
