Geboren in Yorkshire (England). Studium bei Max Pirani an der Royal Academy of Music. Fortsetzung des Studiums in Wien bei Walter Fleischmann, Noel Flores und Robert Schollum. Meisterklassen bei Vlado Perlemuter und Geoffrey Parsons. Preis der österreichischen Regierung für künstlerische Verdienste. Klavierbegleiter u. a. von Gundula Janowitz, Jessye Norman, June Anderson, Peter Schreier, John Shirley-Quirk und Thomas Hampson. Langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Christa Ludwig: 1993 Diapason d’Or-Preis für die gemeinsame CD-Einspielung des Konzerts "Aufwiedersehen Salzburg" sowie die Auszeichnung "Aufnahme Klassik des Jahres 1994" für die Einspielung "Tribute to Vienna". Preise bei internationalen Liedwettbewerben gemeinsam mit Thierry Félix, Christiane Elsner und Ruth Ziesak. 1997 Aufnahme der gesamten Brahms-Lieder u. a. mit Deborah Polaski, Detlef Roth, Michael Volle und Adrienne Pieczonka. Professor ür Liedinterpretation für Gesang und Klavier an der Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt/Main und an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. Meisterkurse in Wien und Salzburg, Deutschland, Japan und Island. Zahlreiche Aufnahmen u. a. mit Gundula Janowitz (Schubert), Marjana Lipovsek (Brahms), Thomas Quasthoff (Schubert) und Cecilia Bartoli (Rossini). Die Rossini-Einspielung mit Bartoli wurde 1993 in London zur "Platte des Jahres" gewählt.

Longtime collaboration with Christa Ludwig: in 1993 Diapason d’Or for their CD recording of the concert "Aufwiedersehen Salzburg" as well as the title "Aufnahme Klassik des Jahres 1994" for the recording "Tribute to Vienna". In 1997 recording of the complete Brahms Lieder with Deborah Polaski, Detlef Roth, Michael Volle, Adrienne Pieczonka and others. Professor of Lied Interpretation for voice and piano at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt/Main and at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Vienna. Masterclasses in Vienna and Salzburg, Germany, Japan and Iceland. Numerous recordings as for example with Gundula Janowitz (Schubert), Marjana Lipovsek (Brahms), Thomas Quasthoff (Schubert) and Cecilia Bartoli (Rossini). His Rossini recording with Bartoli was elected "CD of the year 1993".
