HOME SWEET HOME... The Sharks face the Buffalo Sabres in the final home-and-home set of the regular season, after first taking on Vegas twice to open the 2019-20 regular season. Tonight's head-to-head matchup marks just the fourth time in franchise history the Sharks will face an Eastern Conference opponent in a home-and-home scenario (MTL, 1992-93; PHI, 2008-09; CLB, 2010-11 in Sweden). The two sets are the first time since the 2016-17 season where the Sharks have played an opponent in consecutive games at SAP Center and on the road. 40 IS THE NEW 18... In his debut with San Jose on 10/10 at CHI, Patrick Marleau scored his first goals of the season at the age of 40. Marleau's goal marked just the eighth time in NHL history where a player has scored at least one goal in his teens and 40s for the same franchise. Marleau joined a list that includes Hall-of-Famers G. Howe, M. Lemieux, S. Yzerman and B. Shanahan. His first NHL goal was when he was 18 years and 34 days old.

DISTINCT MANAGER... Doug Wilson served his 1,200th career game as General Manager for the Sharks Franchise against the on 10/8/19. He became the 24th GM in league history to reach the milestone mark and the fifth active in the NHL (D. Poile, L. Lamoriello, J. Rutherford, K. Holland). 'C' STANDS FOR COUTURE... The Sharks open the 2019-20 regular season with a new team in Logan Couture. Couture became the 10th full-time captain in team history, following J. Pavelski (2015-2019). Couture enters 11th season as a member of the Sharks after being selected in the first round (9th overall) by San Jose in the 2007 NHL Draft. He registered a career-best 70 points (27g, 43a) last season and led all skaters in goals (14) in the 2019 playoffs, despite playing six fewer games than second and third place. Couture has skated in 670 career games for San Jose, compiling 514 points (241g, 273a) and ranks fourth in goals and points, fifth in assists, and sixth in games played on the franchise's all-time list. MAKING HIS MARC... Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic can become the first San Jose Sharks blueliner to reach 1,000 games played with the franchise this season, needing only 28 games. Since 2011, Vlasic ranks fourth among NHL defensemen in minor penalties per 60, taking .31 penalties (min. 500 games) and leads the Sharks in the category (min. 300 games). In 13 full seasons, Vlasic has been a plus-rating in all but two. No other defenseman has more (Zdeno Chara, BOS; B. Orpik both have 11) since the 2006-07 season.

H12TORICAL F19URES... The Sharks currently sport two players who are continuing their ascents on the NHL's all-time lists in Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. Some upcoming milestones for Jumbo include 12 assists from A. Oates (1,079) for seventh on the all-time assist list, 20 points from 1,500 NHL points and 27 games from 1,600 NHL games. TONIGHT’S GAME SABRES at SHARKS • This is the first of two meetings between the Sabres and Sharks this season. • Last meeting: Buffalo defeated San Jose 3-2 (OT) in Buffalo on Nov. 27, 2018. • Next meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Buffalo • The Sabres are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games vs. the Sharks; 6-4-0 on the road. • This is the 42nd game all-time between Buffalo and San Jose; Buffalo has a 25-10-6 series record. • The Sabres are 7-8-5 on the road against the Sharks all-time.

THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY • The Sabres are 5-8-3 all-time on October 19. • October 19, 1984: Mike Foligno completes his third career hat trick with the game-winning goal at 12:33 of the third period to dispatch the Quebec Nordiques 5-4 at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW • The Sabres have scored the first goal in seven of their eight games so far this season, going 6-1-0 in those games. Entering play Friday, no other team had scored first in more than six games. • Despite dressing only 19 different skaters through eight games, the Sabres have already gotten points from 18 skaters and had 11 different players score at least one goal. • Jack Eichel (4+6), Rasmus Dahlin (1+8), Victor Olofsson (6+2), and Conor Sheary (3+1) have all tallied at least a point per game so far this season. • The Sabres entered play Friday with the No. 3 power play in the league, converting on a league-high 11 of their 31 power plays this season (35.5%).

SHARK HUNTERS • Carter Hutton is 5-2-1 in his career against the Sharks with a .945 save percentage and a 1.74 goals-against average. • Kyle Okposo has 15 points (5+10) in 14 career games against San Jose. • Jack Eichel has six points (1+5) in his last six games against the Sharks. • Rasmus Dahlin (0+2) and Jeff Skinner (1+1) each recorded a point in both games against San Jose last season. • Colin Miller has recorded five points (1+4) in his last six games against the Sharks.

HOME-AND-HOME • Tonight’s game is the first in a home-and-home series between the Sabres and Sharks that concludes Tuesday night in Buffalo. It is the first home-and-home series ever to be played between the teams. • This series is the Sabres’ first home-and-home set against a Western Conference opponent since November 1996 (Toronto). It’s just their third ever contested against a team located in the Pacific time zone, joining their series against California in February 1971 and Vancouver in March 1996. • The Sabres have played in 163 previous home-and-home series in franchise history, going 92-48-23 (.635) in the home games and 56-78-29 (.433) in the road games in previous series. • The team is 70-64-29 (.518) all-time in the first game of these previous series and 78-62-23 (.549) in the second. • Buffalo’s points breakdown in these previous series is as follows: four points (31), three points (24), two points (67), one point (17), zero points (24). • Buffalo’s last home-and-home series sweep came in the 2014-15 season, as the Sabres beat the Canadiens on Nov. 28 and 29, 2014.

THA CARTER V • Carter Hutton has won each of his five games this season and now has wins in six straight appearances dating back to last season. • He entered play Friday leading all NHL goaltenders with at least two games played in every major statistical category and also led the league with a .966 save percentage at even strength. • Hutton earned his first shutout as a member of the Sabres on Monday vs. Dallas and followed that up by setting a Sabres franchise record with 47 saves in a shutout on Thursday at Los Angeles, joining Bob Sauve (1979-80) as the second Sabres goaltender to post two shutouts in his first five games of a season. • He enters tonight’s game having played his last 128:36 without allowing a goal and needs to play just 2:16 without allowing a goal in his next appearance to surpass his longest career shutout streak (130:51, Feb. 16 to March 3, 2017).

VIC-O MODE • All six of Victor Olofsson’s goals this season have come on the power play, tying James Neal for most in the league entering play Friday. He also led all rookies in goals (6), points (8) and shots (19), and led rookie forwards in ice time per game (17:56). • Since he made his NHL debut on March 28, 2019 vs. Detroit, no NHL player has scored more power-play goals than Olofsson’s eight in 14 games played. He has set an NHL record by becoming the first player in NHL history to score each of his first seven-plus career goals with a man advantage.
