We’ll give you invaluable knowledge about royalties and PRS, record and publishing deals, single song assignments and synchronisation contracts when your music is chosen for a TV advert, Netflix series or a film. Throughout the course you’ll be working on real life projects including sessions with our very own Steelworks Artists, writing and producing for song briefs from top publishers around the world as well as starting your own journey in your chosen field. We want you to leave the course with an excellent understanding of the business you’re entering into as well as a substantial show reel to use when answering the dreaded ‘have you got anything I can listen to’ question.

This is a full time, one academic year course starting in October through to the following June. What You’ll Learn

Songwriting At Steelworks, we live by the philosophy that 'the song is king'.

So, whether you already have your own material, need help finishing some of your existing songs or you simply need to start writing from scratch… We’re here to help. With our in-house team of songwriters and producers, we will do whatever it takes to ensure each song is the best it can be.

As well as writing with and learning from the Steelworks Team, you'll also be working with your peers on the course, collaborating with different artists and their styles with a focus on developing your own skillset as a songwriter.

We'll introduce you to the world of song briefs, typically provided from top publishers and record labels around the world. If an artist or perhaps even a Netflix series is looking for songs, more often than not their individual brief is sent out via publishing companies and/or record labels on their 'Who's Looking' lists. Throughout the course, any songs written will be pitched directly to the individual briefs they're intended for.

Recording No matter which career path you're choosing, we want to provide everyone attending the course with a strong foundation for recording. Our songwriting & production team are experts in this field, with a particular focus on Logic Pro X which is consistently used on everything we do.

Any songwriter, producer, session musician or artist is expected to be ready to record themselves wherever they are in the world. A small home studio setup is often portable allowing the user to deliver high quality recordings in any setting.

We'll give you the necessary knowhow to record yourself anytime, anywhere.
