School Transport Information St Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College Headteacher: Mrs P. Mullins, B.A. (Hons), M.A. SCHOOL TRANSPORT INFORMATION School Year 2010 - 2011 Erdington Road, Aldridge, Walsall, WS9 0RN tel: 01922 740300 fax: 01922 740330 www.stfrancis.cc [email protected] Welcome to the School Transport Information. Parents who use or intend to use school transport should take the time to read this document thoroughly paying particular attention to the information on bus passes. More than 900 of our students travel to school by either school or public transport each day. Every morning before 9 a.m. and every afternoon at 3.15 p.m, 12 buses, double- deckers and coaches and 3 taxis solely devoted to school transport arrive on the school drive. In addition a number of students use regular service buses outside the school on the Erdington Road and in Aldridge. The school experiences relatively few problems with transport. Students should aim to arrive in the morning at their designated stop at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival of the bus. If a school coach or bus does not turn up on time in the morning students should wait for at least 30 minutes. Sometimes delays occur due to traffic or weather, but the coach / bus will almost always turn up eventually. If a student misses the bus it is the parents' responsibility to make alternative ar- rangements. All services will pick up and set down at any recognised bus stop on the route. Stu- dents should put their hands out to signal the bus to stop. All services are due to set down in school (unless otherwise stated) by 8.55a.m. School finishes at 3.30p.m. And the buses depart at 3.40p.m (unless otherwise stat- ed). Students have 10 minutes at the end of the day to leave class, visit lockers or toilets and then catch their bus home. If a student misses the bus he / she MUST tell a member of staff; the student will be given the opportunity to telephone home. The school will try to make other arrangements if no-one is in. Transport can sometimes be delayed due to traffic, weather or a breakdown and stu- dents may have to wait; again they will be given the opportunity to telephone home. For safety reasons and to avoid congestion we ask parents NOT to drive or park on the school premises between 3.20p.m and 3.45p.m in the afternoon to pick up their children. St Francis Transport Page 2 Updated 26/01/2011 If you have to drive onto the school premises then please note that there is a one way system of traffic flow in operation on the school drive so please observe it and keep your speed down to 5mph. AT ALL TIMES WHILST DRIVING ON SCHOOL PREMISES -THINK SAFETY PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY. BASIC RULES FOR SAFETY AND BEHAVIOUR ON TRANSPORT Although it is safe for young people to travel by school / public transport, there are a number of common sense precautions parents /students can take that will increase their safety even more. Travelling by Bus Know where you are going and where you need to get off. Try and have your ticket, pass or change ready in your hand so your purse or wallet is out of sight. If possible, wait for a bus in a well-lit place near other people. On a bus, it is safer to stay on the lower deck and sit near the driver or conductor. If you feel uneasy, it makes sense to move to another seat or speak to the driver. If you feel threatened on public transport make as much noise as possible to attract attention. Walking to & from the bus stop. Think about the best route home and where you could go if you felt threatened. The best idea is to head for a place where you know there will be other people, for exam- ple a garage or shop. Try to use well lit, busy streets and avoid quiet or badly lit al- leyways, subways or isolated parks or waste grounds Try to keep both hands free and don’t walk with your hands in your pockets. If a car drives alongside you and someone inside, who you don’t know well, starts talk- ing to you – turn and quickly walk away in the opposite direction. Never accept a lift with a stranger or someone you don’t know very well even if you are cold, tired or you’re late. St Francis Transport Page 3 Updated 26/01/2011 Keep your mind on your surroundings – remember if you are wearing a personal stereo or chatting on your mobile phone, you will not hear trouble approaching. If you think you are being followed, trust your instincts and take action. As confi- dently as you can, cross the road turning and looking to see who is behind you. If you are still being followed, keep moving. Make for a busy area and tell people what is happening. Consider carrying a personal safety alarm, which can be used to shock and disorien- tate an attacker giving you vital seconds to get away. All students who travel to or from school on public or contract buses or coaches are reminded that the high standards of behaviour which we expect in school should also apply on your way to and from school. St Francis has a very good reputation which can easily be spoiled by one or two thoughtless individuals. Unfortunately this is not al- ways the case. In some circumstances offenders who have been identified have been prohibited from travelling on the bus. Students should not do anything which may distract the driver or upset other pas- sengers, particularly those who share the bus with members of the public. In addition when waiting for or getting off the buses students should behave in a responsible manner, respect for other people’s property and good manners should be maintained. Parents are asked to reinforce the importance of this message to your children. FOOD AND LITTER Good behaviour also includes a responsible attitude towards the environment, particu- larly the one which you travel in. There should be no need to consume large quantities of food or drink on the relatively short journeys to and from school. Those who do should put any wrappers, cans or bottles in an appropriate bin or, better still, take them home and dispose of them responsibly. SEAT BELTS: Should be worn wherever they are provided!! We would like to emphasise the need for good behaviour on the buses. The right to travel on school transport is always conditional upon good behaviour. The school expects it. We want your children to travel in safety. Drivers can easily be distracted. Students who misbehave could lose the right to travel on school transport and can have their passes withdrawn. 3333333 Black Country Urban Park Barometer April 2013 DRAFT WORK IN PROGRESS Welcome to the Black Country Urban Park Barometer. Transformation of the Environmental Infrastructure is one of the key to drivers identified in the Black Country Strategy for Growth and Competitiveness. The full report looks at the six themes created under the ‘Urban Park’ theme and provides a spatial picture of that theme accompanied with the key assets and opportunities for that theme. Foreword to be provided by Roger Lawrence The Strategic Context Quality of the Black Country environment is one of the four primary objectives of the Black Country Vision that has driven the preparation of the Black Country Strategy for Growth and Competitiveness through the Black Country Study process. The environment is critical to the health and well-being of future residents, workers and visitors to the Black Country. It is also both a major contributor to, and measure of, wider goals for sustainable development and living as well as being significantly important to the economy of the region. The importance and the desire for transforming the Black Country environment has been reinforced through the evidence gathering and analysis of the Black Country Study process as both an aspiration in its own right and as a necessity to achieve economic prosperity. Evidence from the Economic and Housing Studies concluded that ‘the creation of new environments will be crucial for attracting investment from high value-added firms’ and similarly that ‘a high quality healthy environment is a priority for ‘knowledge workers’. The Economic Strategy puts ‘Environmental Transformation’ alongside Education & Skills as the fundamental driver to achieve Black Country economic renaissance and prosperity for its people.

The assessment concludes that multi-typology open spaces should be encouraged so biodiversity is an integral part of recreational open space. Description of provision in Walsall Metropolitan Borough 7.40. Walsall Metropolitan Borough falls in the southeast of the study area. The less densely urban eastern half of the borough is included within the study boundary. Figure 7.1e shows distribution of current open space provision by typology as assessed in the Walsall Green Space Strategy 2006-2011 (Draft for consultation July 06). The strategy did not set out any standards for analysis or for future provision, however the Urban Open Space SPD, April 2006 provides further summary of the current quantity of provision and targets for future provision.
