Rakonjac (2007): Divergence of myrobalan (Prunus cerasifera ehrh.) types on the territory of Serbia.. – Genetika, Vol. 39, No. 3, 333 - 342. Variability of some more prominent pomological characteristics was examined in three regions of Serbia (central, western, southern). In all the regions, significant variability of all studied characteristics was established. However, no specifics were manifested between regions, therefore, identical types emerge in all the regions. This is indicated by similar intervals of variation as well as similar mean values of characteristics per region. The obtained results lead to the conclusion that the entire territory of Serbia should be observed as a unique myrobalan population with highly expressed polymorphism of characteristics. To preserve genetic variability of myrobalan, collection is recommended for those types that were arranged into various groups and subgroups according to the results of cluster analysis. Originating in the German Black Forest as two small rivers (Brigach and Breg) converging at the town of Donaueschingen, Danube is flowing for almost 2850 km mainly eastwards, passing through ten states (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine) and four European capitals (Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade) with embouchure in the west coasts of the Black Sea via the Danube Delta, mainly in Romania. Danube played a profound role in the European political, social, economic and cultural history influencing in a multifold manner the heritage of many European nations, some of those without even a physical connection with the River, as it is the case of the Greeks, to whom the Danube is a reference to their own 18th century Enlightenment movement. Due to Danube’s important role in History, the extensive emphasis to its cartographic depiction was obviously a conditio sine qua non especially in the 17th and 18th century European cartography.     WHEN DIPLOMATS FAIL: AOSTRIAN AND ROSSIAN REPORTING FROM BELGRADE, 1914 Barbara Jelavich The mountain of books written on the origins of the First World War have produced no agreement on the basic causes of this European tragedy. Their division of opinion reflects the situation that existed in June and July 1914, when the principal statesmen involved judged the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Habsburg throne, and its consequences from radically different perspectives. Their basic misunderstanding of the interests and viewpoints 'of the opposing sides contributed strongly to the initiation of hostilities. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the importance of diplomatic reporting, particularly in the century before 1914 when ambassadors were men of influence and when their dispatches were read by those who made the final decisions in foreign policy. European diplomats often held strong opinions and were sometimes influenced by passions and. prejudices, but nevertheless throughout the century their activities contributed to assuring that this period would, with obvious exceptions, be an era of peace in continental affairs. In major crises the crucial decisions are always made by a very limited number of people no matter what the political system. Usually a head of state -- whether king, emperor, dictator, or president, together with those whom he chooses to consult, or a strong political leader with his advisers-­ -decides on the course of action. Obviously, in times of international tension these men need accurate information not only from their military staffs on the state of their and their opponent's armed forces and the strategic position of the country, but also expert reporting from their representatives abroad on the exact issues at stake and the attitudes of the other governments, including their immediate concerns and their historical background.

An answer is sought to the question of whether the actions of the political elite were justified in the light of the commencement of European integration and the complicated split of the big federations (Yugoslavia and Soviet Union) with the consequences for peace and European stability. An answer is sought to the question of whether the Slovak or Czech public would support or refuse their decision if they had been given a referendum on the matter. In 2003, Slovakia, along with the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia and Malta, successfully concluded pre- accession negotiations for EU membership (guarantee of implementing the standards of democratic governance), which officially begins on May 1st 2004. Being more enthusiastic for the newly independent Slovak Republic does not necessarily translate itself into lesser enthusiasm about Europe and European Union.     Terms of Reference Organisational Section/Unit : UNODC, Brussels Liaison Office Office Phone: 0032 2 290 25 80 Duty Station: Brussels, Belgium Supervisor: Ms Yatta Dakowah, Representative and Chief of the Office Duration: 3 to 6 months (with a preference for 6 months) Starting time: Monday 3 September 2018 Deadline for application: Friday 17 August 2018 The main eligibility criteria for the UNOV/UNODC internship programme are: - Interns may be accepted provided that one of the following conditions is met: ✓ The applicant must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); ✓ The applicant must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); ✓ The applicant must have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; - A person who is the child or sibling of a staff member shall not be eligible to apply for an internship at the United Nations. An applicant who bears to a staff member any other family relationship may be engaged as an intern provided that he or she shall not be assigned to the same work unit of the staff member nor placed under the direct or indirect supervision of the staff member. Background information: The tasks of the UNODC Brussels Liaison Office are as follows: ✓ Enhancing and fostering partnerships with European Union institutions, in particular with the European Commission, and strengthening policy exchange and dialogue with key partners such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the World Customs Organization and the United Nations system present in Brussels; ✓ Increasing understanding of the work of UNODC related to drugs, crime and terrorism by promoting health, justice and security within the European Union and to a wider public; ✓ Promoting UNODC and the impact of our work to Brussels-based think tanks, NGOs, associations, universities and the general public.
