2015 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS PLAYOFF NOTES

PLAYOFF HISTORY: With the 2015 NBA Finals knotted at 2-2, the Cavs are now 84-82 all-time in the postseason, including 54-29 at home. Since 2006, the Cavs are 33- 11 during the playoffs at Quicken Loans Arena.

ROAD SHOW: Cleveland is 7-2 on the road in this year’s playoffs, winning five of their seven victories on the road by at least eight points. Away from home, the Cavs have held their foes to a combined .404 shooting from the field and .256 from beyond the arc.

 ECF: After winning the first two games in Atlanta during the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavaliers became just the 9th team in NBA history to go on the road and win the first two games of a series, the winner of which would advance to the NBA Finals. But the Cavs became only the second of those nine teams to earn each of those victories by at least eight points, with the other such instance coming in the 1947 playoffs, in the first season of the Basketball Association of America, the forerunner of the NBA. In 1947, the playoff format called for the regular-season champions from the East and the West (the Washington Capitols and the Chicago Stags, respectively) to meet in a best-of-seven series, with the winner advancing to the Finals against the survivor of playoff competition involving four other teams. The Stags won the first two games of the s eries over Red Auerbach's Capitols in Washington, 81-65 and 69-53, and took the series, four games to two. (Elias Sports Bureau)

GLASS WORK: The Cavs are 13-1 this postseason when tying or outrebounding its opponent. Cleveland is averaging a +5.6 edge on the glass (47.2-41.6), which is tops in the 2015 NBA Playoffs. In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavs outrebounded the Hawks by nearly 13 rebounds per game (52.0-39.3).

TENACIOUS D: The Cavaliers have displayed a strong defensive performance in this year’s playoffs, holding teams to under 100 points in 13 of the 18 contests. Check out the Cavs overall defensive numbers so far in this year’s postseason:

 OPP. PPG: The Wine and Gold are giving up 93.9 points, which is the 2nd-lowest of all 16 playoff teams.  OPP. FG%: Cleveland has the one of the top defensive percentage among all teams in the playoffs at .415 (2 nd overall).  STOPPING THE BULLS: In the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Cleveland held Chicago to just .401 shooting from the field. The Cavs held Chicago to under .400 shooting in each of the final four contests. The four consecutive games holding an opponent to under .400 shooting set a new franchise playoff record. The last team to hold an opponent to under .400 shooting in four or more consecutive playoff games was the Memphis Grizzlies (four straight from April 21-29, 2014). In Game 6, the Bulls scored 31 points in the first quarter but were held to just 42 points over the final three periods. The Bulls' 73 points represented the lowest total for any team in NBA history that scored at least 30 in the opening 12 minutes of a playoff game. James becomes the first player in NBA postseason history to put together a stat line of at least 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists. No NBA player had produced a triple-double within the first three quarters of a playoff game since Chris Paul, playing for the Hornets against the Lakers, did that in 2011. No NBA player had earned a triple-double so early in a game since 2009, when Rajon Rondo achieved it with 6:15 to play in the third quarter, playing for the Celtics against the Bulls.

DOING THE DIRTY WORK: In his first career postseason, Tristan Thompson is averaging 10.7 rebounds (2nd highest on the team), to go along with 8. 8 points on a team-best .557 shooting and 1.2 blocks in 36.1 minutes per game. As a starter this postseason (last 13 games), he has seven double-doubles and is averaging 9.6 points on .544 shooting, 12.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 39.3 minutes.

TH 10 ANNUAL GOOD GUY AWARD: Cavaliers forward LeBron James was the recipient of the 10th annual Austin Carr Good Guy Award, presented by the local chapter of the Pro Basketball Writers Association (PBWA).
