Recent Activities 1. IMIA-NI GA 2013 IMIA-NI GA 2013 was held on 20 August 2013 at Bella Center, Copenhagen, Denmark during Medinfo 2013. Four board members, six country representatives, 3 honorary members and 2 observers and corresponding members attended one day long meeting. Welcome new member: Four new country representatives were welcomed. They are Anna Ehrerberg of Sweden, Dawn Dowding of UK, Nurit Azar of Israel, and Pamela Hussey of Ireland. Joyce Sensmeier representing HIMSS was also welcomed as new observer. Chair’s report: Student group led by Max Topaz, RN, MA, PhD student at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. USA was introduced. After NI2012, a group of students got together online and created a student group. There are eight active participants representing six countries (including Brazil, Taiwan, Korea etc.). The role of those active members is to provide monthly updates of the informatics developments in their countries, or internationally. The group created an online community (Google group https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/imianisig-student) that enables easy communication between the group members. Currently, they have about 100 participants from more than fifteen countries. Throughout the past year they developed and implemented several important group activities. For example, they answered the call for IMIA’s Strategic Plan revision and elicited comments from our group members. I took this to IMIA board meeting and officially introduced as a work of IMIA-NI students group. These comments were fed into a process of revising IMIA strategic plan. Several other activities that were conducted by the group included monthly journal club discussions organized by one of our active members (Charlene Ronquillo, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada). Ideas for the papers presented and reviewed were partially solicited from our group members. Also, several professional opportunities for students were distributed within our group. For example, one of our group members became a member of a student Editorial Board for one of the acclaimed journals in the field (Methods of Information in Medicine) after learning about this exciting opportunity from our forum. Currently, the group is actively involved in the organization of the upcoming NI2014. HIMSS APac 2012 - There was NI Symposium on September 16 at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel Convention Center. Hyeoun-Ae Park as chair of IMIA-NI gave a keynote speech at the Symposium. After HIMSS APac 2012, HIMSS Asia Pacific NI Committee was formed to promote NI in the Asian Pacific region. Since then we made a couple of Committee calls to discuss ways to promote NI in the region. Polun Chang of Taiwan and I are members of the Committee. Professional Committee of NI in CMIA, China was formed at APAMI2012 held in Beijing. Today Chinese NI group called Professional Committee of Nursing Informatics was revived with a very formal ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Sun Palace in Beijing during the APAMI 2012. After almost one hour long ceremony, nursing informatics forum with three presentations was held. Peter Murray, Carol Hullin, Polun Chang and I eyewitnessed this event. About 150 Chinese nurses were there. Ying(Helen) Wu was elected as the chair of this group. IMIA-NI Bylaws was approved at IMIA 2012 GA held at Crowne Plaza Hotel Sun Palace in Beijing on October 23, 2012 IMIA-NI website: One of the major topics discussed at IMIA-GA was IMIA-NI website update by Susan Newbold, VP for Communication and collaboration of IMIA NI WGs with IMIA WGs by Kaija Saranto, VP for WGs. NI2014 report: Progress report on NI2014 Taiwan was made by Polun Chang. WG report: VP for WG chairs reported WG activities. Currently there are Education WG led by Michelle Honey Standards WG led by Suzanne Bakken, Evidence-based Practice WG led by Charlotte Weaver and Consumer Health Informatics led by Heather Strachan Selection of Hosting Country of NI2016: Patrick Weber on behalf of Switzerland presented bidding proposal to host NI2016. Members voted and awarded Switzerland as hosting country of NI2016 unanimously. Future Activities NI2014 (the 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics) will be held 21-25 June 2014 in Taipei, Taiwan. 2014 IMIA-NI GA will be held on June21(Saturday) in Taipei, Taiwan during NI2014 International Congress on Nursing Informatics Francophone Special Interest Group (SIG) (Updated April 2014) Website: http://francophonesig.imia.info mapped from http://francophone.wordpress.com Chair: (2012-2015) Pierre Zweigenbaum Senior Researcher LIMSI-CNRS rue John von Neumann Université Paris Sud F-91403 Orsay Cedex France Email: [email protected] Vice chair: (2012-2015) Cheikh Oumar Bagayoko Bamako, Mali Email: [email protected] Objectives The focus of this SIG is to provide a collaborative environment for those Francophone members of IMIA whose ability to interact in English is limited, or when French language- specific issues may have a significant impact on medical informatics issues and would benefit from more synergies within the Francophone community. Recent Activities Summary: The SIG organized a session at MEDINFO 2013, started to organize its governance, is organizing the JFIM 2014 conference, and has reinforced its communication channels. MEDINFO 2013 session A Francophone session was organized at MEDINFO 2013 with the support of IMIA. It attracted 25 people. The 20 scientific presentations included the following topics: Processing French language clinical texts, highlighting current work on de- identification for French and the link to the French side of international terminologies Ontology modeling and population, and its use for clinical standardisation and for case modeling Scientific publications and the French language: Providing easier access to French publications in MEDLINE Translating into French (abstracts of) English-language scientific publications Telemedicine in remote regions Organization and evaluation A brainstorming discussion was held to spur ideas for the future of the SIG, with colleagues from three continents (Africa, America, and Europe). SIG Leadership The SIG currently has a Chair and a Vice-Chair. An Advisory Board (Comité d'orientation) has been set-up, with a representative of each of the French-language Medical Informatics societies: MIM (Belgium), ABIM (Burundi), SOCIM (Cameroun), ATIBS (Chad), AIM (France), SIBIM (Ivory Coast), SOMIBS (Mali), SMIMS (Morocco), SOQIBS (Québec), SSIM (Switzerland), ATIM-TELEMED (Togo), STIM (Tunisia).
