The meeting is also supported by the Asociación Ibérica de Limnologia (AIL), the Sociedad Española de Etología y Ecología Evolutiva (SEEEE), the Sociedade Portuguesa de Ecologia (SPECO), and the group of Iberian Marine Ecologists. This conference is special since it will host scientists who study different types of ecological systems but who rarely meet together to share conceptual ecological frameworks. A new ecological society (SIBECOL) was established in July 2018 to bring together this scientific collective, while maintaining the identity of the existing societies that will progressively converge in their activities. This meeting will be the first action of the new society, its foundation conference. AEET is proud to contribute to the event, merging its regular meeting with 1st SIBECOL for this historic event. The aim of the conference is to highlight crosscutting concepts shared by the different branches of ecology (limnology, marine ecology, terrestrial ecology, theoretical ecology), regardless of the system addressed. We seek to exchange ideas and approaches, and
