Of this shs. 8,368 bn (75%) was collected o Atiak-Moyo-Afogi – bridges/drainage works completed (shs. 832 m); by Uganda Revenue Authority while shs. 2,789 bn was Secondary schools: T o Kampala-Entebbe express highway (51 km) o o Support to Nabyeya Forestry College Project funding from development partners.     ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSENT SUMMARY Project Name: Road Sector Support Project 3: Nyakahita-Ibanda-Kamwenge Road Upgrading Project Country: Uganda Project Number: P-UG-DB0-020 1.0 Introduction Following a request by the Government of Uganda to the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the upgrading of the Nyakahita-Ibanda-Kamwenge road from gravel to bitumen standard an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment had to be carried out by the project proponent (Uganda National Roads Authority – UNRA). UNRA in contracted the services of Consulting Engineering Services (India) Private Limited in Association with KOM Consult Limited to carry out the ESIA which was completed in January 2009, and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) reviewed and approved the report on 13 March 2009. The ESIA Summary is being posted on the AfDB website for pubic information as is required by the Bank policy on public disclosure. The summary covers: i) Project description and justification, ii) Policy legal and administrative framework, iii) Description of the project environment, iv) Project alternatives, v) potential impacts and mitigation/enhancement measures, vi) environmental and social management plan, vii) monitoring program, viii) public consultations and disclosure, ix) ESMP and cost estimates, x) conclusion and recommendations, xi) reference and contacts, and xii) an annex “resettlement action plan” (RAP). 2.0 Project Description and Justification The project is in Western Uganda and the project road traverses three districts of Kirihura, Ibanda and Kamwenge which have an estimated population of 0.7 million people. The rest of the road continues to Fort Portal in Kabalore district. The project shall upgrade the road from gravel to paved standards and is 153 km long and it has a 6 m wide carriageway and 1.5 m shoulders on either side.

This Annual Workplan and the Budget for the FY 2014/15 is an integration and consolidation of the departmental Annual workplans and the Budget . The Annual Work Plan and the Budget for FY 2014/15 was mainly based on Indicative Planning Figures provided by Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning . The format for this Annual Work-Plan and the Budget is based on the Output Budgeting Tool in which intended activities are linked to expected outputs and locations. The District Budget Desk with consultations from the District Executive Committee and Chief Administrative Officer prepared this Budget and has been approved by the Executive Committee. On behalf of Kiruhura Local Government and on my own behalf I wish to extend my sincere gratituted to Ministry of Finance , all line ministries , all development partners for their continued support to Kiruhura Local Government which has enabled us to implement development programs.     Financial Inclusion for Refugees (FI4R) Results of baseline survey March 2020 Project Overview The Financial Inclusion for Refugees Project (FI4R) was launched by FSD Uganda and FSD Africa to support financial service providers (FSPs) to oer financial services to refugees and host communities. In addition, the project in collaboration with BFA Global will conduct refugee financial diaries in Uganda and provide insights into the financial strategies employed by refugees over time to build their livelihoods and manage their finances. The FSP partners in the project are Equity Bank Uganda Limited (EBUL), VisionFund Uganda (VFU) and Rural Finance Initiative (RUFI). They will oer bank accounts services for savings, remittances, transactions etc, loans to entrepreneurs, farmers and businesses as well as create jobs by recruiting agents and field sta. This is expected to build resilience, drive access to and use of basic financial services for refugees and host communities. Baseline Objectives • Provide the financial service providers in the FI4R project details of the relevant customer base they are targeting. • Provide other stakeholders one of the few in-depth surveys that covers financial tools, as well as income, expenditures and physical assets of a diverse set of refugees. Accepted 28 July, 2010 The prevalence of malaria in human beings and Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite infection in Anopheles mosquitoes were studied for seven months in eight villages in Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura District, Uganda. The aim of the research work was to assess Plasmodium sporozoite infection rates using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and link this with malaria prevalence. A total of 2566 female Anopheles gambiae s.l. and 270 Anopheles funestus group were collected in 24 households using pyrethrum spray catches, and from goats and cattle housing (kraals), using CDC light traps. The densities of female An. gambiae s.l. and An. funestus group in all the eight villages studied were significantly influenced by rainfall. P. falciparum sporozoite rate for An.

  • Masaka Regional Referral Hospital
    Masaka Regional Referral Hospital Having started in 1927 as a treatment centre for World War I veterans, Masaka Regional Referral Hospital was elevated to regional referral status in 1996. Mugisha Ereazer, the principal Hospital Administrator says the hospital has a 330 bed capacity with an annual admission of 23,456 patients giving a bed occupancy rate of 90.6%. With the completion of a new mega hospital facility, the bed capacity is expected to increase to about 540 beds. The hospital's catchment is spread across eight districts ± Masaka, Rakai, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Ssembabule, Bukomamnsimbi, Kalungu and Kalagala, taking care of over two million people. The infrastructural capacity of Masaka regional referral hospital has been limited too. Masaka Regional Referral hospital offers all services expected of a regional referral health facility but also offers nutritional support for both children and adults. It also handles complicated paediatric and gynaecological cases including carrying out fistula repairs. It has also teamed up with MIFUMI ± a national NGO project ± to offer support to victims of gender-based violence from Burundi, Rwanda, the DR Congo and Tanzania. Being along the busy Mombasa - Kampala - Mbarara - Kigali Highway makes it the first point of call for patients mainly accident victims from Burundi, Rwanda, the DR Congo and Tanzania. Consequently , the hospital©s average daily contact with patients is about 2,000. At Masaka Hospital, the patients are very excited about how they are treated and now refer to the hospital as `Mulago'. The staff members are overstretched especially in the maternity ward. Up to 40 babies can be born in one night with 3 midwives on duty.
