The Citroën Junior Team Aims Higher Rally Finland (30 July - 2 August 2009) – Preview The Citroën Junior Team aims higher After a month-long summer break, the FIA World Rally Championship heads to Finland for the ninth round of the series from 30 July to 2 August. The Citroën Junior Team will be running three C4 WRCs: for Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia, Evgeny Novikov / Dale Moscatt and Conrad Rautenbach / Daniel Barritt. By improving both its performance and reliability throughout the second third of the season, the Citroën Junior Team has gone from strength to strength since April. In Argentina, Italy, Greece and Poland, the Citroën Junior Team always managed to place at least one of its C4 WRCs in the points, thanks to Sébastien Ogier, Conrad Rautenbach and Evgeny Novikov. Some fastest times from Ogier and Novikov on the world’s toughest stages have also underlined the growing potential of the Citroën Junior Team. One month after a promising performance in Poland, the Citroën Junior Team now faces a real icon in the world of rallying. Finland is well known as the spiritual home of rallying, producing six World Champions that have claimed 13 of the 30 world titles allocated since 1979. The event’s rapid stages and rollercoaster crests make it an unforgettable experience for everyone who goes there. Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia and Evgeny Novikov / Dale Moscatt have been nominated to score manufacturer points for the Citroen Junior Team. Conrad Rautenbach / Daniel Barritt are entered in a third Citroën C4 WRC. In order to prepare for the quickest rally of the season, the three crews will undertake a three-day test on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to set-up their Citroën C4 WRCs and get to grips with the unique conditions of Finland. Having first sampled the Finnish stages at the wheel of a C2-R2 MAX, Sébastien Ogier will re-acquaint himself with the rapid gravel roads at the wheel of a C4 WRC: « While I’ve already been to Finland, everything’s going to be a lot quicker this year » he said. « Our test before the start of the rally should help me a lot. Our main objective is to continue building up experience by driving consistently and getting to the finish of each rally without hitting problems. » After putting in some remarkable performances throughout the season to date, Evgeny Novikov starts his very first Rally Finland with plenty of confidence. « This extremely tricky rally will be a completely new experience for us » he explained. « Our recent performances have been encouraging. I’m beginning to develop a really good feeling with the C4 WRC. Our ambition is to continue the progress we have made by setting some good stage times and getting to the finish without resorting to SupeRally. » Conrad Rautenbach will start the Rally Finland for the sixth time: his second Finnish event at the wheel of the Citroën C4 WRC. The Zimbabwean finds it impossible to hide his enthusiasm for the rally. « There’s nothing that comes close to the feeling you get when you launch a WRC car into the air for 30 or 40 metres » he said. « This is a very technical rally that you have to approach with really good pace notes. My objective is to get to the finish and set some good times along the way. If everything goes well, we should be in a good position to score points. » Three questions to … Benoit Nogier, Citroën Junior Team Manager Have the latest results led to new ambitions for the Citroën Junior Team? « It’s fair to say that the last few rallies have gone well for our entire team. When you have young drivers, you obviously always have to climb a bit of a learning curve with them. The WRC is an extremely difficult category where you have to work extremely hard to have any hope of a good result. Now, all the efforts of our crews and team are beginning to pay off. Our objective is simply to continue our progress by making the most of everything that we have learned up to this point. » How is the Citroën Junior Team shaping up prior to the start of the Rally Finland? « For the first time, we have nominated Evgeny Novikov / Dale Moscatt and Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia to score manufacturer points for the Citroën Junior Team. Conrad Rautenbach and Daniel Barritt will drive the third car. We would like all the crews to make their own individual contributions to the season. The end result in the World Rally Championship for manufacturers is the result of hard work from every single one of our crews. So it is only fair that everybody gets the chance to contribute towards it. » What are the objectives for the team on this particular event? « Rally Finland is relatively new for us, even though we ran a Citroën C4 WRC there for Conrad Rautenbach last year. Sébastien Ogier has already driven this rally in a C2-R2 MAX, but he is sure to notice a big difference with the C4 WRC. Finland is definitely one of the rallies that requires the most experience to master. The characteristics of the stages are not so different though to the ones found in Poland, where we were not that far off the pace of the top runners. We all know that this is going to be an extremely tricky event, but we remain optimistic. The objective is to get our C4 WRCs regularly into the top five stage times. It would be great to finish in the top five overall as well, but we all know that the local drivers have the habit of causing an upset on their home event. » Useful information Rally Finland (round 9/12) 30 July - 2 August Surface : Gravel Where: Jyväskylä Practical information: Rally HQ and the Media Centre are at the Jyväskylä Paviljonki. • Mission Accomplished for Sordo and Marti
Acropolis Rally of Greece (11-14 June, 2009) – Day 3 Mission accomplished for Sordo and Marti After restarting under the SupeRally ruling for the third and final day of the 2009 Acropolis Rally of Greece, Dani Sordo and Marc Marti achieved their aims by scoring four points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ world championship. Day 3 of the Acropolis Rally was held near the service park in Loutraki. The day began with a loop comprising three stages, including a run through Aghii Theodori, a daunting 33 km stage. After restarting in 17th position in the overall standings, the only goal for Dani Sordo and Marc Marti was to finish in order to score a handful of points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ championship. Arriving in Loutraki for the midday service, Dani Sordo was fully focused on the job in hand: “It’s never easy to run at a controlled pace but I’m taking no risks. I’m staying in the middle of the road – at times, it feels like we’re doing a recce!” Following the cancellation of a stage, the rally concluded with a second run through Aghii Theodori. Running at the same pace, Dani finished in 12 th position, which is worth four points in the Manufacturers’ standings. “Dani and Marc did a perfect job,” concluded Citroën Total World Rally Team team manager Sven Smeets. “These points are even more important because our rivals once again took a maximum score. We’re already looking ahead to the next rally. We’ll be going to Rally Poland even hungrier for a win!” RALLY FACTS Dani Sordo / Marc Marti Stage Overall SS13 : Loutraki 1 (8,98 km) 3rd +1’’5 16 th +19’33’’0 SS14 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 5th +10’’0 14 th +19’21’’1 SS15 : New Pissia (11,30 km) 2nd +0’’2 14 th +19’10’’7 SS16 : Loutraki 2 (8,98 km) SS CANCELLED SS17 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 2nd +5’’3 12 th +18’41’’0 Stage wins Day 1 – SS1 : Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus) – SS2 : Dani Sordo (Citroën C4) – SS3 : annulée – SS4 : Evgeny Novikov (Citroën C4) – SS5 : Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C4) – SS6 : Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus).

However, with COVID-19 now in almost all parts of the world, we have to approach sports very differently where we expect athletes, spectators, organisers and support crew working close to each other. The 2021 Safari Rally WRC is no different. Thankfully, the FIA has released clear and concise guidelines on how to do this in Appendix S of the International Sporting Code, COVID-19 Code of Conduct. No one is immune from these rules and certain groups, such as Media, are expected to be ambassadors in pushing through the message to the competitors and public. You will see and experience new measures in place that you may not be used to such as the creation of the High-Density Area (HDA) where only those essential to the safe running for the event are allowed, mandatory PCR and antigen tests for entry into the HDA, lack of mingling of at the event even between groups at HDA. There will be limited access for all personnel in this area including for Media and once in HDA, one will not be allowed to freely come in and out at will. In fact, there is even guidelines on how to behave at your hotel every evening and who with. We need everyone on board making this event a success and bringing back the glory of the Safari Rally.

Informations presse sport CITROËN Citroën introduces the Citroën Junior Team Citroën Sport is delighted to announce the launch of the Citroën Junior Team which will run as a 'Manufacturers 2' team in the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship. The programme will be handled by Citroën Sport Technologies and will feature several talented young drivers over the year. The full list of names, and the individual events they will each contest, have yet to be finalised, however. "We are absolutely thrilled to be able to confirm the Citroën Junior Team as an M2 entry in the 2009 World Rally Championship," says Citroën Sport Director Olivier Quesnel. "As required by the regulations, the Citroën Junior Team will contest at least eight events in order to qualify for Manufacturers' points. Conrad Rautenbach, Evgeny Novikov and Sébastien Ogier will form the mainstay of the line-up, while Chris Atkinson is due to take part in the first round of the new year, the Rally Ireland, in a Citroën C4 WRC." "It is no coincidence that we have chosen to employ the word 'Junior' in the team's official name," points out Citroën Sport Technologies Manager Benoît Nogier. "It is an M2 team which will predominantly run drivers who are currently learning the sport, and their average age will be 22. Our aims are to develop the commercial side which we began in 2008 and also enable our crews to benefit from our expertise. The programme will allow them to gain valuable extra experience which will put them in good stead for the next step of their career." The set-up of the operation will be the same as that which ran Urmo Aava and Conrad Rautenbach in 2008 and will continue to feature the Citroën C4 WRC.

Complementing the Citroen-Total World Rally Team, the Citroen Junior Team will reinforce the marque’s presence on the championship by providing a cradle for young talent. Building on the foundations laid in 2008, the Citroen Junior Team will take the start of the first round of the year with three Citroen C4 WRCs. The crews of Australian Chris Atkinson and Belgian Stéphane Prevot (n.7), together with Zimbabwe’s Conrad Rautenbach and Briton Daniel Barritt have been chosen to score team points in the World Championship for Manufacturers. The French crew of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia will drive the third Citroen C4 WRC, which wears number 11. Rally Ireland marks the start of a season that will take in 12 rounds, and just like last year the rally route will run on roads through both the Republic of Ireland and also the United Kingdom. The fast, narrow and bumpy stages are guaranteed to pose a real challenge for the crews. The local weather at the end of January could well take in ice and snow – so all the drivers will be forced to think on their feet! Chris Atkinson is the only member of the Citroen Junior Team to have already competed on the Rally Ireland, but he will be making his debut in the Citroen C4 WRC.
