Velorbis has created a new collection of iconic lifestyle men’s and women’s wear. The new lifestyle collection consists of Jackets, boots and sunglasses and is created to support and strengthen Velorbis’ current collection of high quality classic style bicycles and leather bags. The Idea of distributing urban classic cycles and lifestyle products to the fashion and lifestyle stores came naturally to us, Partner Kenneth Bødiker explains, We see the bicycle as an extension to your wardrobe and we believe that when people buy our bicycle they want one that matches their own personal style. They want to look smart when cycling. In Copenhagen, Denmark it is common to cycle in your every day clothes - and when people in general are aware of their personal clothing style - we have a bicycle that matches. With this in mind, the link up with the fashion and lifestyle stores made perfect sense. How the urban cycling concept works Kenneth Bodiker continues: The model works like this; A fashion or a lifestyle store buys a ‘lifestyle package’ consisting of bicycle(s), bags, shoes etc. The bicycle is often placed in the store window and acts as a head turner. Stores can then display clothes and other accessories on the bicycle(s), and based on this presentation, customers will get a hole new shopping experience of cool bicycles matched up with complementary clothes and accessories, in a context that you can’t find in a normal bicycle or sport shop. Here bicycles normally are lined up in a row with no personal touch to presentation and often accompanied with sports gear and lycra clothes. And now to the fun part for the retailer…. Velorbis’ retailers earn besides their margins on all Velorbis accessories, a 20% commission on every bicycle sold in the fashion or lifestyle store. All the retailer needs to do, is to take an order from a customer and hand that order over to Velorbis. Velorbis will then manage the complete order fulfillment from production to delivery and even after sales support is handled by Velorbis. Selling bicycles is therefor risk and hassle free for the fashion and lifestyle storeowners and they can then do what they do best; selling clothes and lifestyle accessories. After a successful introduction of our new cycling concept to the fashion industry at Pitti Uomu, Firenze and Berlin Fashion Week, Velorbis moves on to their home turf Copenhagen. Steinberg Date: 02 March 2020 Word Count: 13636 Abstract The impact of digitalisation on value systems has received much attention from business scholars. Nevertheless, little is known about how digitalisation transforms value systems for physical products that require post-purchase services (PPSs) like product commissioning and repair service. Such services are traditionally offered by physical dealers and may strengthen their position, thus affect the digital transformation of value systems. By conducting a case study in the Dutch bicycle market, this study sheds new light on how digital transformation of value systems is affected by PPSs. Findings show that when there is a sufficient need for PPSs, incumbent intermediaries can use PPS resources to protect themselves against disintermediation. Furthermore, findings contradict the prevailing view that digital transformation is a one-way process. Findings evidentially portrait the digital transformation of value systems as a dynamic process; the extent to which activities in value systems are digitized can increase and decrease. Moreover, findings show that a high need for PPSs offers a temporal protection against digital disruption.     ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION OF THE BICYCLE INDUSTRY IN MINNESOTA Total economic contribution is comprised of three parts - direct, indirect, and induced effects. This report explains each of these components and how they were measured to calculate the economic contribution of the bicycle industry in Minnesota for Task 4 of this project. The bicycle industry in Minnesota has three main components – retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers, and advocacy groups. Retailers, in this study, include businesses selling new or used bicycles, those selling bicycle parts and accessories, businesses providing bicycle repair services, and businesses providing bicycle rentals. Several types of retailers are involved in the bicycle industry, including bicycle specialty retailers, general sporting goods retailers, discount department store retailers, warehouse and supercenter stores, and general merchandise stores. Wholesalers and manufacturers included in this study make or wholesale bicycles, bicycle parts, and accessories related to bicycling (including clothing, trailers, and bike racks). Advocacy groups are organizations that support and promote bicycling in the state. Of note here is the definition of the bicycling industry. This task is focused on the industry as defined in the above paragraph. Another task of this project will measure the tourism-related impacts of bicycling in Minnesota, specifically those related to bicycling events held in Minnesota. Direct Effect of the Bicycle Industry For the bicycle industry, direct effect is equal to bicycle-related operational and capital improvement expenditures by the businesses and organizations in each of the categories. Direct effect is measured in economic output, employment, and labor income. The initial step of an economic contribution analysis is to quantify each of these direct effects for the industry.

    Bicycle-Related Industry Growth in Portland June 2006 Bicycling-Related Industry Growth in Portland Introduction The League of American Bicyclists and Bicycling Magazine have awarded Portland the distinction of the country’s most bicycle friendly large city, in part due to the City’s investment and commitment to bicycling and bicycling infrastructure. A positive by-product of this investment is the growing, vibrant bicycle-related industry. To get a complete picture of the economic impact of bicycling to the City of Portland, staff conducted a survey of more than 100 businesses, from small-scale custom frame builders to component manufacturers, race promoters, and bike shops. The survey consisted of four questions related to: • gross revenue related to bicycles, • growth in revenues over the past decade, • the effect of Portland’s bike-friendly reputation on business, and • how the bicycle-related activities of the City could help their business grow. Businesses were categorized by: • Manufacturers and distributors, • Retail and repair shops, • Races, rides, events, and tours, • Professional services: education and advocacy groups, planners, messenger companies, artists, and other professionals with a business focused exclusively on bicycling. Note: This study does not include an estimate of the benefits of bicycling related to personal health, air quality, traffic congestion, real estate value, availability of parking, or other societal benefits. While most businesses contacted shared their information, many asked to keep their information anonymous. For those that did not respond, staff made estimates of their business revenue as appropriate and as explained below.     Bikes without Borders: Transboundary Tourism, Collaboration, and Rural Development in Montenegro Greg Ringer, PhD (corresponding author) Andriela Vitić - Ćetković, PhD Bikes Without Borders: Transboundary Tourism, Collaboration, and Rural Development in Montenegro Abstract The end of the international embargo on Serbia and Montenegro in 2006 created growing visitor interest in the West Balkan region, and its natural and cultural heritage. Yet, political instability and lingering ethnic/religious strife limit tourism development in some inland and transboundary locations. Furthermore, the industry has been slow to create sufficient jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for economically deprived populations, while the governments of Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania prioritise mass development along the Adriatic coast instead. In response, this paper employs a strategic management approach to identify Critical Success Factors (CSF) for successful, sustainable, and supportive bike tourism in Montenegro’s rural and cross-border communities. The goal is to ascertain whether bicycle tourism is a model for sustainable development in Montenegro and the West Balkan region (Lumsdon, 2000). Our initial analysis is informed by qualitative and quantitative data from bicycle tourists and regional proponents, and an assessment of existing tourism management practices and political processes.
