My practice explores the digital hybridity of sculpture following the affirmation of media, exploring the nuances of identity that pivot between hyper-visibility and invisibility, offering (re-)imagined collective perspective. My work chronicles the elevated reframing of black anatomy - unencumbered, in traction - the mediation between three-dimensional processes alongside the handmade aesthetic within an extended analysis of ‘Objecthood’; the resulting objects emerge contextually abstracted from traditional representational aesthetics - embedded in the everyday, collective experience through methods of display.     PRESS RELEASE 21 September 2019 INIVA TO RELOCATE TO UAL’S CHELSEA COLLEGE OF ARTS CAMPUS Institutions strengthen collaboration to advance debate on race, culture and gender Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) and University of the Arts London (UAL) are delighted to announce that Iniva is moving to 16 John Islip Street, on the campus of UAL’s Chelsea College of Arts, in September 2018. The Stuart Hall Library is the critical and creative hub for Iniva’s pioneering programme that challenges conventional notions of difference and diversity. Its move to the Chelsea College of Arts campus will establish further space to develop Iniva’s collection of over 10,000 books and journals. A new dedicated archive area will be created alongside flexible spaces for events. Designed to generate discussion and encourage collaboration, these activities will be open to everyone. As a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), Iniva is an independent organisation, governed by a board of trustees that receives its core funding from Arts Council England. The move reflects a long history of collaboration with Chelsea College of Arts, highlighting connections to recent research projects such as Black Artists and Modernism. There is also a shared history with world renowned alumni, curators and artists such as Yinka Shonibare MBE RA, Isaac Julien CBE RA, Professor Sonia Boyce MBE RA and the curator David A. Bailey MBE. Both Iniva and UAL’s Chelsea College of Arts aim to develop a long-term partnership that addresses post-colonial narratives, advancing research on race, culture and gender.     RHIANNON SALISBURY Arusha Gallery | [email protected] | 0131 557 1412 BIOGRAPHY Rhiannon Salisbury works from images of luxury brand advertising campaigns found in fashion and lifestyle magazines. She uses bright colours and thick luscious textures to investigate beauty standards and the idealisation of female adolescence. Endangered animals often make an appearance as accessories, with echoes of the fierce creatures’ prints on textiles. Described by GQ Magazine as ‘responsible for the most jaw and mouth dropping works of art shown at the Chelsea College of Arts end of year show’, Rebecca Salisbury dramatically redraws the parameters of portraiture, accommodating the luminous and incandescent figures that occupy the contemporary urban space. She has exhibited throughout London and is a frequent collaborator with the city’s Turps Banana studio. This exhibition is a collaboration between MA Curating and Collections (Chelsea College of Arts, UAL) and Flat Time House (a London landmark that was declared a Living Sculpture in 2003). The show stems from extensive research of John Latham’s archival material supervised by Flat Time House Director and Curator Gareth Bell-Jones. Latham’s elusive text speaks to a process of unlearning, through an exploration of language that attempts to interrogate received knowledge. In correspondence with such ideas, Ifeanyi Awachie, Anna Barham and Noa Latham have been invited to respond to John Latham’s writing through the lens of poetics, time and politics. Summary This paper explores the establishment of a University governance structure for digital and technology change in an art and design based institution consisting of six world class colleges on 18 sites across an international city and a constituency of users that total over seventy thousand. 2. THE EXTENDED ABSTRACT This is a challenging time for the University of Arts London (UAL) as it seeks to fully harness the potential of being digital and teaching digitally and to advance how we manage our UAL wide digital services and how we think about the potential to leverage the digital landscape to advance UAL’s mission and values. So much of what UAL needs to achieve to maintain its leading global position is reliant on a clear and structured approach to the digital. This approach has to include both Learning and Teaching and operational rationalisation. In order to best position UAL for the next three years of growth and success it is essential that this Digital and IT strategy is fully endorsed and fully supported. Over the last twelve months a UAL IT transitional plan has been developed to enable a transition towards a fully developed IT & Digital strategy. The development of a transitional plan is a good way to have a stepping stone approach to major strategic change rather than a sudden change.
