MAP YOUR JOURNEY ABROAD You need to stay on your path to graduation while studying abroad. This may mean taking specific classes to meet your degree requirements. CHART, powered by IFSA, helps you do just that.

Need to take Advanced Creative Writing? Perhaps you need a Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer class. CHART will provide you with multiple options depending on the IFSA programs your school preapproves.

Peruse more than 10,000 classes already taken by students in IFSA programs over the last three years, with new classes added frequently. You can view class outlines, reading lists, and syllabi, and you may be able to see which class your school considers as the class equivalent!

5 GREATER RETURNS The IFSA experience is about creating serious momentum for the professional you’re becoming. The lessons you learn will pay rewards throughout your career and life. 6 SUMMER PROGRAMS INTERNSHIPS ABROAD Immerse yourself in the professional culture of another country while establishing an international network of colleagues and demonstrating your ability to navigate a global, multicultural business world. DIRECTED RESEARCH With the help of a faculty guide, you will create a research project that will serve as a tangible and meaningful product that showcases your commitment to your academic topic. STUDENT TEACHING As a future educator, you will encounter an increasingly diverse student population in the classroom. Showcase your ability to work with students from different cultures by conducting student teaching in a global setting.

COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Community-based learning opportunities carry academic credit while providing a chance for active involvement in your host community. Placements are possible in NGOs, nonprofits, community organizations, schools, and government agencies. VOLUNTEER Give back to your adopted community abroad through meaningful work as a volunteer. Opportunities are available in a wide variety of interests, with activities ranging from a single-day project to a commitment for an entire semester. JOIN A COMMUNITY Wondering how you might make friends and actually feel like a local? Every IFSA program gives students the opportunity to engage in a community of their choosing. Whether through an on-campus club or a group based in the wider host community, IFSA programs facilitate true integration with the culture. EXAMINE COMMUNITY IDENTITY Our exclusive Exploring Community & Culture™ (C&C) class offers you the opportunity to experience your host city in a way most visitors never can. This 3-credit option fosters intercultural dialogue and a greater understanding of global society. Some programs offer an on-site class, while students in other locations can join a global cohort of other IFSA students worldwide by taking the class online. Using your host city as your laboratory, you will experience and examine cultural and personal identity.

7 YOU BELONG HERE Where you come from is just as important as where you’re going. With IFSA, you’ll be part of a community with a shared sense of belonging that persists beyond your time abroad. In a world where opportunity is not evenly distributed, we’ve tailored everything we do, from financial aid to advising, so people of all communities, identities, and abilities can navigate a future where one size doesn’t fit all. WELCOME ABROAD.

With the Work-to-Study Grant, students complete projects for IFSA in exchange for a stipend between $300 and $1,000, depending on the scope and involvement of the projects completed.

These grant opportunities are available to all students, with special consideration to those already on Federal Work-Study at their home campus. Work-to-Study positions are determined by current and frequently changing project needs at IFSA, but could include:

Content Marketing | Diversity and Inclusion Support | Peer Advising | Photography | Social Media | Videography

IFSA GRANTS Guaranteed Grants IFSA offers numerous grants specific to certain programs or countries. See the Afford Your Journey section at IFSA-Butler.org for complete details. IFSA State School Grant Do you attend a state school? Take advantage of the IFSA State School Grant, a $2,000 grant for any IFSA semester program. The grant will be applied to the overall tuition/housing costs during billing. There is no application process; state school students (including community college students) automatically receive the discount!

SAVINGS PROGRAMS Fill the GAP Program Take part in Fill the GAP (Global Account Program) and get a head start by saving early for your IFSA program. Use this savings account to gather contributions from friends and family, and IFSA will match up to $1,000 of your savings. See IFSA-Butler.org for enrollment information and deadlines.

UpFront Advance Program IFSA’s UpFront Advance Program allows you to bill certain fees to your IFSA student account. You can then pay these expenses with financial aid or with our monthly payment option.

VETERANS BENEFITS If you are a recipient of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, you may use your tuition benefits for study abroad. This process can differ among U.S. colleges and universities, so you will want to start the conversation early with your home campus study abroad office to determine the best billing procedure for your institution. SUMMER PROGRAMS 33 IFSA & BUTLER UNIVERSITY IFSA (Institute for Study Abroad) was founded in 1988 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a provider of study abroad programming for U.S. undergraduates. Over time, IFSA has maintained its independence as a non-profit organization and its close connection as an affiliate of Butler University, a nationally recognized, comprehensive university.

In addition to providing transcripts for all IFSA students, Butler University endorses all IFSA-taught classes through a faculty committee that reviews class syllabi and provides curriculum advice, verifying that our academic rigor meets or exceeds expectations. Contributing to our high level of academic integrity, Butler University reviews all IFSA programs prior to program launch, and representatives from the university serve on IFSA advisory panels, our National Advisors Council Executive Committee, and our Board of Directors.

At the conclusion of your program, you and your home institution will receive a Butler University transcript with your overseas credit and grades translated to the U.S. system, making it faster and easier to receive credit for your coursework.
