Les Bardenas Reales Navarre Les Bardenas Reales 21 Navarre Pour un dépaysement total, et pourtant toujours au Pays Basque, il faut se rendre au cœur de la Navarre. Les Bardenas Reales est un endroit bien particulier qui ne ressemble à aucun autre coin. Il se situe seulement à 50 km de Pampelune et donc à 100 km de la frontière française. 127 Km DA Point de départ et d’arrivée : le bourg de Tafalla. DA Données cartographiques © Google Tafala Ce circuit présente des parti- cularités, liées au fait que les Bardenas Reales sont classées en Olite tant que Parc Naturel et de zone militaire: - L’accès au Parc Naturel des Bardenas Reales est autorisé de 08h00 à une heure avant le coucher du soleil. - Pas de routes, mais quelques pistes autorisées pour les véhicules motorisés Pitillas (il est interdit de s’en écarter) - La vitesse maximale autorisée est de 40 km/h La Oliva - Les GPS risquent d’être inefficaces ! Santacara Carcastillo 1 Au départ de Taffala, on contourne Olite. Ce bourg est présenté dans le circuit N°23 «Les sentinelles de Navarre». La nature commence déjà à changer : elle devient doucement plus aride. 7 Virgen del Castildeterria Yugo 2 On longe la lagune de Pitillas, 3 6 Les Bardenas zone naturelle très protégée et Reales clôturée. 4 La route suit alors la vallée de 5 l’Aragon, avec ses vignes et ses Arguedas champs d’oliviers. 90 coupdecoeurbasque.fr coupdecoeurbasque.fr 91 1 A deux kilomètres avant Carcastillo, au bord de l’Aragon et au milieu d’une esplanade presque dépourvue e végéta- tion, s’élève le groupe d’édifices médiévaux qui forment le monastère cistercien de La Oliva où vivent encore 25 moines. Ils produisent du vin et de l’huile d’olive. A voir ou à faire : Visite du monastère. Les moines très sympathiques et accueil- lants sont disponible pour nous parler du monastère, de leur vie et de leurs productions. Le circuit traverse le désert du nord au sud. La circulation en voiture est très réglementée. A la sortie de Carcastillo, prendre la route NA 128, plein sud, et surveiller les indications : un panneau signale, sur la droite, la seule route autorisée qui entre dans les Bardenas. Ne pas se fier aux GPS : cette route n’existe pas ! C’est une piste non goudronnée mais praticable, contournant un camp mili- taire... Attention à la poussière ! Les paysages deviennent petit à petit désertiques. 1 Ce circuit vous amène dou- cement et progressivement dans la zone la plus remarquable, dans des paysages lunaires ou dignes d’un western. Le point le plus connu est la Castildetierra, la cheminée de fée, à côté du ravin de Las Cortinas. A voir ou à faire : Si vous avez le temps, si vous désirez profiter au mieux de cet endroit exceptionnel, faites le tour complet de la base militaire. coupdecoeurbasque.fr 91 4 En reprenant la piste vers l’est, en direction de la base militaire, il est possible de monter sur un promontoire naturel aménagé d’un escalier (Cabezo de las Cortinillas) procurant une vue panoramique sur toute la région. A voir ou à faire : Un hall d’exposition vous fournit des explications sur la région 5 Prendre le temps de flâner dans les petites rues d’Arguedas : bourg typique du sud Navarre avec ses ruelles étroites et son imposante église. Une particularité : des maisons troglodytes témoignent d’une vie très ancienne aux pieds des fa- laises calcaires. La région est spécialisée dans l’élevage des taureaux et vaches pour les fêtes espagnoles. La ville elle-même y est consacrée au vu des équipements pour canaliser les courses des bovins. 92 coupdecoeurbasque.fr coupdecoeurbasque.fr 93 6 Au cœur d’Arguedas, der- rière l’église, prendre la petite route qui monte à travers des paysages lunaires, afin d’arriver à l’hermitage sanctuaire del Yugo. L’endroit est bien équipé pour les randonneurs, les pèlerins et le pique-nique. 2 belvédères proposent des vues panoramiques sur les Bardenas. 6 Retour vers Tafalla en pour- suivant la piste balisée, toujours dans des paysages sauvages et arides. Et pourtant il y a de l’eau. La preuve en est ce lac de retenue qui contraste dans cet environ- nement austère.     www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Multi-aged social behaviour based on artiodactyl tracks in an early Miocene palustrine wetland (Ebro Basin, Spain) Ignacio Díaz-Martínez1*, Oier Suarez-Hernando2, Juan Cruz Larrasoaña3,4, Blanca María Martínez-García2, Juan Ignacio Baceta2 & Xabier Murelaga2 We present a new locality with at least 880 vertebrate tracks found at the top of a limestone bed from the lower Miocene Tudela Formation (Spain). The trampled surface was formed by artiodactyls that crossed a muddy carbonate accumulated under the infuence of water level variations in a palustrine environment. The tracks refect diferent types of morphological preservation. The well-preserved tracks have tetradactyl digit impressions caused by both manus and pes, and are the type series of a new artiodactyl ichnotaxon, Fustinianapodus arriazui ichnogen. nov. and ichnosp. nov. The rest of the tracks, which are not as well preserved, are didactyl and were classifed as undetermined artiodactyl tracks. According to their preservation, morphology, size, arrangement and orientation, we propose that this tracksite is the product of a social behaviour, particularly gregariousness, of a multi-age group of artiodactyls ~19 Ma ago. The morphologic and palaeoecologic data presented here suggest that the trackmakers were a group of anthracotheres with a livelihood similar to current hippos. They crossed, periodically, a fresh water palustrine area along some preferential pathways (trails). Te Artiodactyla is a large order of placental mammals which includes pigs, peccaries, hippopotamus, cam- els, girafes, deer, cows, antelope and sheep1,2. Te oldest fossil artiodactyls are from the lower Eocene in North America, Europe and Asia, and evolved to the large land mammals of today3.
