Under the Best University Teacher Award, outstanding university teachers are conferred upon an award with cash prize of Rs 100,000 and a certificate for their outstanding performance during the award year. To make process more transparent and efficient, the criterion to judge performance of teachers has been revised. The teachers are judged: 5 percent for their qualification, 50 percent for teaching, 30 percent for research, and 15 percent for co- curricular activities. We congratulate Dr. Hanif on winning this prestigious award. with SAP – UAP. FAST-NU has plans to use SAP in Computer Science and Business Management courses in Training all its campuses. The minister said that owing to this reason Thar block VI had been included in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said this while talking to Naheed Memon, Chief Executive Officer of UK-based Company Oracle, who called on him to discuss the energy related issues specifically about Thar block VI. Shaikh said that the Sindh government had intended to initiate Thar Coal Block-VI as a national strategic project under the CPEC to develop coal mine, set up a 1,320 MW coal-fired power project, produce gas, urea and diesel. Block-VI of Thar Coal had estimated total coal reserves of 1.4 billion tones. Shaikh said that recently with the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Thar Block VI had been included as a potential block for coal to gas to urea/fertilizer production in 9th joint coordination committee (JCC) meeting on CPEC held on 5th Nov 2019.

    BCCI: Pakistan's International Bank Agha Hasan Abedi The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), a major international bank founded in 1972 by Agha Hasan Abedi (creator of UBL), a Pakistani financier. Registered in Luxembourg, with its head office in London and main operations running in Karachi, Abedi with his large number of Pakistanis in the field of international banking led the bank to become a global juggernaut with almost 80 per cent of the BCCI's top executive positions at the head office and in branches in various countries were held by Pakistanis. BCCI had an interesting structure. It was an elaborate corporate tangle, with BCCI's founder, Agha Hasan Abedi and his assistant, Swaleh Naqvi, in the center. This convoluted structure was an essential component to its amazing growth – and guaranteed its eventual collapse. The structure was conceived of by Abedi for the specific purpose of evading regulation or control by governments. Cities once known for manicured gardens and exquisite fountains today reek of unmanaged solid waste and sewage. Due to resource constraints, sanitation and water supply have not been given top priority for the disenfranchised urban poor in Pakistan, who face poverty, disease, and lack of opportunity. This chapter explores issues related to urbanization.1 It provides three case studies that demonstrate good practice in sustainable urban development in Pakistan related to water supply, solid waste management, and sanitation.2 Table 10.1 shows some development statistics for Pakistan. COUNTRY CONTEXT Pakistan in the early 1950s was primarily rural, with only a handful of small to mid-sized cities. The population was estimated at 34 million in 1951; it is estimated at 160 million in 2005. The current urban population is about 56 million. The proportion of urban population increased from 17% in 1951 to 35% in 2005. Since its inception as an independent state in 1947, Pakistan has experi- enced dramatic changes in economy and demographics. The agriculture sec- tor, which contributed more than 53% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 1949–1950, declined to 24% of GDP in 2004 (Zaidi 2005). Over the same period, manufacturing increased from 8% to 26%, and services and trade increased from 25% to 51%. Whereas the share of agriculture in the national GDP halved over the last 5 decades, the agricultural labor force has declined less, from 65% in 1951 to 48% in 2003 (Zaidi 2005).
