When G7-BBAT measuring between gate posts, remember to add extra to go up S8-AT the posts and past the motors. Driveway cable: • figure-8 cable, 0.75mm2 • 4-core cable HIGHLY RECOMMENDED • Conduit Automatic gates need • 4 to 6 conduit brackets (to hinges able to handle the hold conduit on gate posts) motor’s forces. Made in Post Cap not supplied. Grab Australia for Sprint Gate. one to match the gate post Solar Panel is mounted on. Battery Box mounts not Bugs and insects in gate supplied. Two pieces of motors will cause problems. 25mm steel angle will work. Use silicone to seal where cables enter the base of motor. 3 wiring Conduit 1 Run both the figure-8 & 4-core cables through the conduit. • If you have trouble feeding cables through the conduit use a drawer TIPS string or cable snake to pull them through. • Don’t trim cables or conduit until you connect them to motors. • Include an extra cable for possible use in the future. 2 Dig a channel between the posts to lay the conduit. No government regulations exist demanding a minimum depth for low NOTE voltage cable 4 motor • Can be mounted on left or right post. TIPS • Best motor position is half-way up gate post. EXISTING GATES Check gates are in excellent operating condition. Gates & hinges in poor NOTE condition will give you trouble and prematurely wear the motor. 1 Pin all arm sections together. 2 Fit arm to motor. Extend arm. 3 Close gates. Mark posts at base where motors will be mounted. Stay Frame Mount the motor where the arm meets the gate stay. Next best option is NOTE the gate frame. 5 4 Adjust post bracket to fit gate post. 5 Mount post bracket as shown, with bottom edge on mark. (See previous page) GATE THIS SIDE >>>> Remove motor’s cover to find which motor has the electronic control board. 6 The motor with the control board and solar panel are mounted on the same post. 7 Bolt both motors onto posts. Attach arms to both motors and tighten. Arms are identical, flip them to suit both sides. 8 Play around to set the rotating bracket to the gate stay/frame. Then attach it to arm pivot. Arm Pivot 6 battery box NOTE Mount brackets not supplied. Good old steel angle does the job. Mount an angle bracket to gate post, 1 with the solar panel. Gate Post Battery Box Angle 2 Attach other angle bracket to battery box brackets (above). Sit box on bottom bracket and attach top bracket to post. Battery Box 3 Open battery box to remove foam packing. solar panel post Steel post cap not supplied in kit. Measure diameter of post NOTE to match cap. Downee caps avail. to 150mm. East-West 1 Drill a hole in centre of post cap and bolt it onto the panel post. 2 Position bolt holes east-west for the solar panel to face north. Place cap & panel post on gate post. It may be tight and need 3 some encouragement with a rubber mallet. A couple of self tappers will hold cap in place. Post Panel • Keep the solar panel box. You’ll need it a bit later. TIPS • Not sure which direction north sits? Download a free compass app onto your smart phone. 7 solar panel If tree shade covers the solar panel between 9am – 3pm it can seriously TIP reduce the battery charge. Even if just for a short time. Solar panel shouldn’t be covered by tree shade. Panel can be placed in a full-sun position up to 30m* away from the gate. *use low voltage cable (2-core + earth 2.5mm2). 1 Tek screw aerial to top of solar panel frame. 2 Leave box on the panel. Bolt solar panel (facing north) to the panel post. 90 80 70 Set solar panel angle for maximum 60 PANEL 50 charge. More locations on page 15. 40 ANGLE 30 20 10 0 gate stops 1 Unlock motor arm. Close gate. Key Stop Place a stop where arm will sit against it when 2 closed. 3 Adjust stops as needed, then tighten. We strongly recommend physical stops in open & closed positions. They TIP remove a lot of stresses from the motor. A piece of angle works just fine as a ground-stop. We strongly recommend the use of a physical stop on both the open & close. 8 connect motors Control Board 1 Remove motor cover, and control board cover. 22VAC Remove existing black wires from INPUT 2 22VAC INPUT terminals. Pull them through, out of the way. Connect the brown-blue wires from the battery into the 22VAC INPUT terminals. Control Board 3 Punch a hole in the grommet on both motor bases. Grommet Motor bottom view 4 Run both figure-8 and 4-core cable into both motors. MOTOR MOTOR ONE TWO Motor One 9 Place fuse (inside Battery Box door) into fuse holder on the red power 6 cable. The batteries are fully charged so it may spark. That’s OK, 24V is completely safe. Cover solar panel, connect black-red power 7 cables to Solar Panel and Batteries. Motor’s control board plus solar controller are now active. Controller may need to be turned on. Cable tie the power cables against post. trouble shooting Call our Tech Team 1800 241 733 10 programming Digital Display Programming Buttons Control Board Scroll up OK Scroll down 1 Position gate half-way between open closed. Other accessories can quickly and easily be added to automate its open/close function such as visitor control and improved security. However, more accessories will drain the batteries, so also consider upgrading your solar system to a larger panel or bigger battery bank.
