In contributing to the August call for evidence, we in East Midlands Branch: Re-submit our May 2020 Rf EM Branch submission for previous NIC RNA call for evidence. This is on pp6-15 below in red text with a few subsequent additions in blue. Attempt to answer the NIC’s broad questions Q1 to Q4 below. References are to the pages and tables in the NIC’s Interim Report (see header.) Question 1: Please provide specific sources for evidence that the Commission could use in estimating costs and the impact of proposals on journey time and capacity. For schemes already proposed other than by Railfuture, such as those listed on p36, much information is already available from Network Rail, SNTBs (TfN, Midlands Connect), local and combined authorities, TOCs, DfT. Campaign organisations. For additional schemes put forward by Railfuture, further work would need to be done, though campaign groups such as SENRUG, SELRAP, MEMRAP and CRIL may have initial estimates for specific lines or areas. -

Weekly COVID-19 Surveillance Report in Leicestershire Cumulative data from 01/03/2020 - 29/09/2021 This report summarises the information from the surveillance system which is used to monitor the cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Leicestershire. The report is based on daily data up to 29th September 2021. The maps presented in the report examine counts and rates of COVID-19 at Middle Super Output Area. Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs) are a census based geography used in the reporting of small area statistics in England and Wales. The minimum population is 5,000 and the average is 7,200. Disclosure control rules have been applied to all figures not currently in the public domain. Counts between 1 to 5 have been suppressed at MSOA level. 2019/1013 Applicant: National Grid Description: Planning application for National Grid's Visual Impact Provision (VIP) project involving the following works:1) Construction of a new sealing end compound, including permanent access; 2) Construction of a temporary haul road from Brook Hill Lane including widened bellmouth; 3) Construction of a temporary Trans Pennine Trail Diversion to be used for approximately 12 - 18 months; following construction approximately 410m of said diversion surface would be retained permanently; and 4) Erection of two bridges (one temporary and one permanent) along the Trans Pennine Trail diversion Site Address: Land off Brook Hill Lane, Dunford Bridge, Barnsley, Sheffield Site Description The site stretches from Dunford Bridge in the Peak District National Park to Wogden Foot LWS approximately 1.8km to the east. With the exception of the sealing end compounds at either end, the site is linear and broadly follows the route of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT). At Dunford Bridge the site extends to the former rail tunnel entrance and includes the existing sealing end compound located behind properties on Don View. Beyond this is the TPT car park and the TPT itself which is a former rail line running from Dunford Bridge to Penistone; now utilised as a bridleway. The site takes in land adjacent the TPT along which a temporary diverted bridleway route is proposed. In addition, Wogden Foot, a Local Wildlife Site (LWS) located 1.8km to the east is included (in part) as the proposed location of a new sealing end compound; construction access to this from Windle Edge also forms part for the application. -

All rights reserved. 2018. www.creativerail.co.uk A Brief History of the Route The first incarnation of the East Coast Main Line dates back to 1850 when London to Edinburgh services became possible on the completion of a permanent bridge over the River Tweed. However, the route was anything but direct, would have taken many, many hours and would have been exhausting. By 1852, the Great Northern Railway had completed the 'Towns Line' between Werrington (Peterborough) and Retford, which saw journey times between York and London of five hours. Edinburgh to London was a daunting eleven. Over time, the route has endured harsh periods, not helped by two world wars. It only benefited from very little improvement. Nevertheless, journey times did shrink. Names and companies synonymous with the route, such as, LNER and Gresley have secured their place in history, along with the most famous service - 'The Flying Scotsman'. Motive power also developed with an ever increasing calibre including A3s, A4s Class 55s and HSTs that have powered expresses through the decades. The introduction of HST services in 1978 saw the Flying Scotsman reach Edinburgh in only five hours. A combination of remodelling, track improvements and full electrification has seen a further reduction to what it is today, which sees the Scotsman complete the 393 miles in under four and a half hours in the capable hands of Class 91 and Mk4 IC225 formations. -
