Tom Fleming Wilson (see letter pg 37 Westmorland Gazette, 12/06/2014) died of wounds received while trying to get back to safety after tank D15(in which he was a gunner) was damaged by artillery shells as it fought its way over the German front line trench on 15th September 1916. Two men were killed, his picture is in the WG of 30/9/1916. Born in 1888 he was brought up by his grandparents at Fieldside, Grasmere. He was a journeyman joiner and a motorcycle enthusiast. He enlisted at Coventry in the MGC in 1915.
