Now You Know Icon for Hire Album Download Icon for Hire - Now You Know Lyrics now you know icon for hire album download Icon for Hire - Now You Know Lyrics. I work like one of the boys, and I'm as true as they get but I'm a lady through and through, like give me some credit I knew I'd regret it if I tried to blend in and pretend Be something other than I am like have you noticed I'm a woman Didn't come to downplay it, or to play it up either and I'm not trying pick a fight or be nobody's leader But it feels like everybody's just a little too interested In the fact that females can indeed make music Our interviews, our bios, - they all make it a point "Female Fronted Band, from Decatur, Illinois" And just once, I'd like to see some other band's resume go out of their way to say they're fronted by a male, ok? And while we're on it, let me say Women don't all sound the same Who gave us the idea that "Female Fronted" is a genre anyway? Seem like everywhere I go, everybody wanna know What's it like to be a girl, in the music world. Wanna make it disappear, tell 'em what they wanna hear, If truth ain't pretty will you all stay with me Will you love me, love me ugly. And I know it's not fair, and I can't complain, Cuz with girl in our band, people don't look away But you know what, it feels like they look just a little too long. stare me up and down, forget to listen to the song. I take the stage and before I even open my mouth, the audience assumes that they got us all figured out "Oh your band's got a chick, must be some kinda trick, there's no way she got this far without sucking somebody's" Did you really think that's how it works, I'm not fucking eye candy I'm here to do my job, I'll be the last man standing Boys in crowd asking, for me to flash them, well here you go, news flash: You're ignorant and that's that I bet you'd never say that to your little sister The media's got you all jacked up, little mister Cuz girls in my position can perpetuate the cycle walking a tightrope, don't know which way to go Hypersexualize, or downplay your femininity Dress like the dudes, or pray to God that you're pretty Are you kidding me? And I don't even know who's to blame Beauty sells, I buy it too, I'm trying to sell it back it you. Seem like everywhere I go, everybody wanna know What's it like to be a girl, in the music world Wanna make it disappear, tell 'em what they wanna hear, If truth ain't pretty will you all stay with me. Will you love me, love me ugly. So tell me, what's a woman to do-no, scratch that Tell me what's a human being to with the fact that What gets us ahead just holds us back more Is a level playing field too much to ask for? And I know that by saying it, I'm bringing attention. To an issue that might be better left unmentioned - but someone's gotta say it, gotta call out the scene the scene is obscene, my sanity's split at the seams. So to all of ya'll making this just about ass and tits here to set the record straight, it don't gotta be this way We can change the game, rearrange the way to fame And make a bigger deal about the talent than the face See I got little girls watching me, wanting to be like me, And I wanna show them that they don't gotta be like me They can do their own thing, they can rewrite the rules They can get respect without acting like fools So lets not make it harder than it has to be I'll keep making music, you stop asking me What's it like to be a girl in the entertainment world, Cuz now you know. The Alice Cooper story is, first and foremost, an extraordinary tale of “split personality”. Like something straight out of “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”, singer Vincent Furnier surrendered to the domination of showman Alice Cooper. But by his own admission, the man who always speaks of “Alice” in the third person in interviews remains a simple, completely normal guy in private, far from the stage where he enacts his excesses and provocations. Throughout a career stretching over 50 years, there is an evident streak of schizophrenia in his many stylistic changes. While we credit him with the invention of shock rock, he has ventured into almost every genre with varying degrees of success, from pop to nascent hard rock, with forays into heavy metal, new wave and industrial… Twenty years ago, the French Touch invaded the clubs and radio stations all over the world, putting France high on the map of electronic music. Qobuz tells you the story of 10 records which have left their mark on this golden era of French producers. As the birthplace of an ever-increasing number of metal groups, Sweden proved their worth internationally in the early 90s when a dynamic crowd of metalheads burst onto the scene. We look back in time to understand how Swedish death metal developed and what made it so original. H. Wainwright in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in English Examining Committee: Dr. Kevin McNeilly Supervisor Dr. Ian Hill Supervisory Committee Member Dr. Judith Paltin Supervisory Committee Member !ii Abstract This thesis is a subcultural reading of Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco’s recording style. I examine how acoustic noise, crude production values, and do-it-yourself ethics exact symbolic and practical resistances to pop music hegemonies that privilege hi-fi sound and elite studio technologies. As an expression of what Dick Hebdige calls a “spectacular subculture,” I argue DeMarco’s self-taught recording style challenges technical standards in the recording arts, tastes underpinning the economy of popular music, and codes of masculinity in popular rock music. Borrowing from the work of Jacques Attali and Tony Grajeda, I explain how DeMarco’s “lo-fi” Makeout Videotape recordings use noise and distortion to symbolize and enact ruptures in procedural and aesthetic scripts that denounce non-professional music production.

These funded, produced, and marketed the resulting recorded music and subsequently sold these works to consumers through a fragmented retail sector. We argue that digitalisation has led to a new structure in which the retail segment has also become concentrated. Such a structure, with successive oligopolistic segments, can lead to higher consumer prices through double marginalisation. We further question whether a combination of disintermediation of the record labels function combined with ‘self- publishing’ by creators, will lead to the demise of powerful firms in the record label segment. If so, this would shift market power from the record label and publisher segment to the retail segment (and new intermediaries such as ISPs), rather than increasing the number of segments with market power. A Comparative Analysis of Metal Subgenres in Terms of Lexical Richness and Keyness Inaugural-Dissertation zur Erlangung des Doktorgrades der Philosophie an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München vorgelegt von Volkan Kahraman geboren in Frankfurt, Deutschland München, Oktober 2020 Erstgutachterin: Prof. Dr. Angela Hahn Zweitgutachter: Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmid Drittgutachter: PD Dr. Peter-Arnold Mumm Tag der mündlichen Prüfung: 14. Juli 2020 2 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I have always heard from people around me about the difficulties of doing a PhD, most of which centered on the psychological damage it leaves on the scholars. Although I had anticipated similar effects, I was also confident that I would do it more easily since it is on a subject which I like the most – metal. By the end of the study, I was baffled by my own naiveté. Now I find it strange that I still love metal music. I resemble the effort and misery in this long-lasting study to the one in the recording session of W.A.S.P.’s The Crimson Idol album of which detailed account is provided by Blackie Lawless himself in the album sleeve as follows: When I started this record, I had no idea of how long it would take or the diverse elements involved, so we started keeping track. 425 drum heads, 54 sets of guitar strings, 75 guitar picks, over 24 miles of recording tape (48 reels of 2” tape), 150 cassettes, 315 gallons of beer (both domestic and import, Corona Extra owes us and endorsement), 27 gallons of Smirnoff vodka (Pierre was real popular on this one), 175 gallons of drinking water (this Hollywood shit isn’t fit to swallow), 251 gallons of soft drinks, 286 rolls of toilet paper (no comment), 210 light bulbs, over 1,200 pinball games (Mikey’s the champ), 15 bottles of aspirin (see Smirnoff), 32 bottles of Vitamin C, an unruly 24 track machine named “Otis” (who did not go the distance), one 6.1 earthquake, and a fucking major flood in Feb.
