Anonymer Benutzer / 23.12.02 20:23 Re: r.i.p.: clash-sänger joe strummer tot :( > Weiß eigentlich irgendwer woran er gestorben ist? hier der pressebericht: Joe Strummer, the leader of legendary Seventies punk band The Clash, has died, aged 50. A spokesman for Strummer, real name John Mellor, confirmed to BBC News Online that the singer died at home on Sunday. Friend and Clash video director Don Letts said Strummer had died of a heart attack, but an autopsy is to be performed to confirm the cause of death. Hein van der Ray, the head of Epitaph Records, who released Strummer's two most recent albums, said: "It is pretty devastating news." Strummer recently launched a new career with his band The Mescaleros Strummer formed The Clash in the mid Seventies. Along with the Sex Pistols, they were the figureheads of the punk scene that put London on the map as the centre of the musical world in the late Seventies. The Clash arguably gave punk a classic pop sensibility and their vital spirit in turn influenced later bands such as the Manic Street Preachers. Strummer's death comes as the members of the Clash were believed to be considering a reunion, 17 years after the band split up. They were reported to be planning a one-off gig next year. Intelligent lyrics The band were politically aware and became known as champions of left-wing causes. They even called their 1982 album Sandinista, after the left-wing guerrilla movement in Nicaragua. They were anti-racist and noted for inflammatory, intelligent punk songs such as London Calling, White Riot, White Man In Hammersmith Palais and Tommy Gun. The band, who also boasted Mick Jones, Topper Headon and Paul Simonon, became huge stars in the US. Rolling Stone voted London Calling, their classic 1980 album (released in 1979 in the UK) as the best albums of the 80s. In 1982 they supported The Who at Shea Stadium, the US venue made famous by The Beatles. Their 1982 song Should I Stay Or Should I Go was their biggest US hit, and was posthumously used in an ad for jeans manufacturer Levi's. The Clash had huge record sales, but had signed a deal with their record company that denied them huge profits. They wore this as a badge of pride, claiming it ensured they still kept to their punk ideals. Strummer led the band until 1986, after sacking Mick Jones. The band released their last album, the poorly-received Cut The Crap, the same year. The Clash were due to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003, after the Ramones only the second punk band to be 2 / 3 gothic.at / Tratsch r.i.p.: clash-sänger joe strummer tot :( honoured. In the last few years Strummer forged another successful career with his band The Mescaleros, touring around the world and releasing two albums - Rock Art And The X Ray Style in 1999, and 2001's Global A Go-Go. He also played with The Pogues and featured in several films, including Alex Cox's Walker and Straight To Hell, and Jim Jarmusch's 1989 Mystery Train. He leaves a wife and children. Strummer's website reads: "Our condolences to Luce and the kids, family and friends." Didi_Disko / 23.12.02 20:58 Re: r.i.p.: clash-sänger joe strummer tot :( Danke! 3 / 3.

SECOND ANNUAL REPORT OF THE GEOLOGICAL AND AGRICULTURAL SURVEY OF TEXAS, —BY— S. B. BUCKLEY, A. M., Ph. D., STATE GEOLOGIST. HOUSTON: a. c. gray, state printer. 1876. Second Annual Report of the State Geologist To His Excellency, Richard Coke, Governor of Texas: This second annual report of the geological and agricul- tural survey of the State, is respectfully submitted to your consideration. With many thanks for the aid you have given the work, I remain, yours truly, S. B. BUCKLEY, State Geologist. Introduction In the following pages I have given what I deem to be the most useful things pertaining to the agricultural and mineral resources of the State, which I have obtained during the past year, reserving much geological matter of scientific interestfor a final report. Since the last report, I have bought chemical apparatus sufficient to analyze mineral soils and mineral waters, which will be of great assistance in the future work of the survey. This appa- ratus has only been recently obtained. Austin, March 27th, 1876. 4 The Importance of Geology and Geological Surveys. I supposed that the importance of geology and geo- logical surveys was so well known and acknowleded that it would not be proper here to say anything about their usefulness. Nor should I allude to these things, had I not a few weeks ago, heard one who was called a leading member of the late Constitutional Convention, state in a public speech to that body, that "Geology is a humbug and he knew it to be so." It is strange that all the leading universities, colleges and schools of the civilized world have been teaching a humbug for the last 45 years; and still more strange, that all civilized countries, including every one of the United States, excepting Florida, have had or are having geolog- ical surveys made of their domains; also, the United States Government, during the last 15 years or more, has had and still continues to have geological surveys made of its territories.

His research contained separate sections on labels, shops, artists, radio stations and sound systems. In this version we have amalgamated these into a single ‘encyclopedia’ and added entries that cover the period between 2007-2020. • The Clash and Mass Media Messages from the Only Band That Matters
THE CLASH AND MASS MEDIA MESSAGES FROM THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS Sean Xavier Ahern A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2012 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Kristen Rudisill © 2012 Sean Xavier Ahern All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor This thesis analyzes the music of the British punk rock band The Clash through the use of media imagery in popular music in an effort to inform listeners of contemporary news items. I propose to look at the punk rock band The Clash not solely as a first wave English punk rock band but rather as a “news-giving” group as presented during their interview on the Tom Snyder show in 1981. I argue that the band’s use of communication metaphors and imagery in their songs and album art helped to communicate with their audience in a way that their contemporaries were unable to. Broken down into four chapters, I look at each of the major releases by the band in chronological order as they progressed from a London punk band to a globally known popular rock act. Viewing The Clash as a “news giving” punk rock band that inundated their lyrics, music videos and live performances with communication images, The Clash used their position as a popular act to inform their audience, asking them to question their surroundings and “know your rights.” iv For Pat and Zach Ahern Go Easy, Step Lightly, Stay Free. v ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This thesis would not have been possible without the help of many, many people.

  • O Álbum Sandinista!: Agenciamentos E Fronteiras Musicais Do Grupo the Clash1
No álbum Sandinista! Palavras-chave: Sandinista!; The Clash; experimentalismo; hibridismo; punk.
