“In the name of Christ, we bid you welcome to our parish community, its work and worship, its instruction and service, its comfort and blessing.”

From the Pastor, Fr. William J. Herman 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time This Week at Queen of Peace This Wednesday we begin the annual observance of Lent. It is the spe- cial season for the ascent to the holy mountain of Easter. Through its two-

fold theme of repentance and baptism, the season of Lent disposes the faithful to Sunday, March 2 10am Mass celebrate the paschal mystery. We are to listen to the word of God and devote our- selves to prayer and repentance, thus renewing our baptismal promises. Tuesday, March 4 8:30 am Mass in chapel & rosary Lent runs from Ash Wednesday until the Mass of the Lord’s Supper exclusive on Holy Perpetual Help Novena Thursday. Ash Wednesday is a day of universal fast and abstinence in the Church. Simply put, Lent is a time to take inventory in one’s life and see how one is prepared Wednesday, March 5 ASH WEDNESDAY to meet God face to face. It is a time to repent for one’s sins; tell God one is sorry for 8:30 am Mass & distribution of offending him and his people; ask for mercy and begin anew with a determined atti- Ashes in church tude to place him foremost in one’s life. It is a time for God and one to get on the 7 pm Mass & distribution of same page. In our busy world, it is time to prioritize putting God first, realizing that he Ashes in church said that he would be with us always, but we have to be quiet enough to hear him, and we have to look for him. When one does this, one finds God is right there. Thursday, March 6 8:30 am Mass in chapel & rosary People are concerned with what is going to happen to the artifacts of the parish. We

Friday, March 7 are finding worthy homes for each. I want to share with you a note received this 8:30 am Mass in chapel & & rosary week. “Dear Father Herman, I am Elizabeth Puleo Tague, the daughter of the late 11 am World Day of Prayer service - Jean and Peppino Puleo, who were long-time members of Our Lady Queen of Peace in church, reception to follow. Parish. I am the member of St. Ambrose who asked that the Resurrection cross, 1 pm Stations of the Cross—chapel which my parents donated to Q.of P., be transferred to St. Ambrose. I am writing to-

Saturday, March 8 day to thank you for ensuring the cross’s safe transfer to St. Ambrose. It has been 3:15 pm - Confessions hung in the vestibule of the church, over the memorial and candles for the poor and 4pm—Weekend Mass in front of some beautiful stained glass windows. Honestly, it looks like it was custom -made for this location. Fr. Pelc included an historical write-up about the cross in our church newsletter and, since that time, a number of former Queen of Peace parish- ioners have approached me, saying that they remember that cross and how nice it is Lent to see a part of their original home parish now installed at St. Ambrose. Also, I re- Begins cently sent a letter to Fr. Complo and made sure that he was aware of your kindness March 5 in arranging for the transfer of the cross. He was so happy to hear this news, as he was obviously instrumental in helping my parents select this particular piece for the ASH church. Please know, Father, of my deep appreciation for your effort in transferring WEDNESDAY the cross. It is a terrific part of my parents’ legacy. Thank you again. Know that I will

keep you in my prayers. Gratefully in Christ, Elizabeth.”

Mass & Distribution of Ashes As you can see, artifacts are being respected and are being placed where they are in church appreciated and their history is important. Next week we will hear from the students at 8:30 am and 7 pm at All Saints School in Canton. You gave them furnishings from (continued on page 3)

(PASTOR continued) the brothers’ chapel where they have been restored and installed. They did not have a prayer facility. It is a great report.

Last week, priests from adjacent parishes met to divide our territory and absorb it into their boundaries. Star of the Sea will ab- sorb 36%, St. Jude 28%, and St. Matthew 36%. If we were to have clustered or merged with another parish, it would likely have been with St. Matthew or St. Jude. In indicating which parish you may join, nobody has indicated either of these parishes. This tells you how sensitive the committee to close our parish was to your desire. It is a blessing that we do not have to have meet- ings and discussion on this topic. You are free to join a parish where you will be comfortable according to your own reasons. I also want to stress that the money we have in our account is to follow you to your new parish. That is why it is important to regis- ter when the time is right. The Holy Spirit is with us. Have a blessed week and profitable Lent.

Marriage: Love and Life In The Divine Plan: Effects of Cohabitation Social science research, however, finds that co- habitation has no positive effects on a marriage. In some cases, cohabitation can in fact harm a couple’s chances for a stable marriage. More importantly, though, cohabitation involves the serious sin of fornication. It does not conform to God‘s plan for marriage and is always wrong and objectively sinful.” – US Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Marriage
