Presentation of RTV Slov e n i a Presentation of RTV Slovenia RTV Slovenia is a public, non-profit radio-television organisation performing radio, television and other activities in compliance with the Law on RTV Slovenia. RTV Slovenia prepares two national television programmes (TV SLO 1 and TV SLO 2), two regional television programmes (Television Koper/Capodistria and Tele M), two programmes for the Italian and the Hungarian national communities respectively, four national radio programmes (1st programme - programme A-1, 2nd programme - Val 202 and 3rd programme - programme Ars as well as Radio Slovenia International), two regional radio programmes (Radio Koper and Radio Maribor) and Radio Capodistria and Pomursko madžarski radio/Muravidéki Magyar Rádió with programmes for the Italian and Hungarian national communities in Slovenia. Within the scope of the mentioned television and radio programmes we also prepare programme contents, radio and television programmes for Slovene national minorities in the neighbouring countries. 2 Presentation of RTV Slovenia The employees of RTV Slovenia prepare a variety of informative, cultural, educational and entertaining programmes; we create, perform and mediate culture-arts works, broadcasts for Slovene national communities in the neighbouring countries, emigrants and migrant workers ... We respect human personality and dignity, principles of unbiased and truthful information, pluralism of opinion, ideology and religion, as well as political independence and autonomy, we assure integral and unbiased possibility of being informed and freedom of artistic creativity, we promote Slovene culture, stimulate cultural creativity and freedom of artistic creativity, educate and develop linguistic culture, protect children and young people against the contents that could harmfully influence their mental and corporal development. Within RTV Slovenia the Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, the Chamber Choir, Children and Youth Choir, a group of music producers and Nototeka operate and they dedicate a majority of their work to creation and performance of music works and make the archives of the music treasury of the public service broadcaster richer due to recordings. We should neither forget to mention their variegated concert activity both in Slovenia and abroad and the promotion of RTV Slovenia and Slovenia as a state. RTV Slovenia also has its Record Label issuing CDs, audio cassettes, video cassettes and DVDs. 3 Presentation of RTV Slovenia The future of expansion of RTV Slovenia is seen in the Multimedia Centre (MMC) creating teletext, web pages (www.rtvslo.si) and the WAP portal (wap.rtvslo.si). The Multimedia Centre also has a task to create three info channels (children’s, entertaining and informative) and to subtitle the broadcasts for the deaf and deaf-mute. 4 Presentation of RTV Slovenia FINANCING OF RTV SLOVENIA The public RTV services are being financed from several sources: RTV licence fee, commercial revenues, other commercial revenues and from the co-financing revenues of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. RTV licence fee payers are all those having a radio or television receiver on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia where technical conditions for the reception of at least one programme of RTV Slovenia are assured, or alternatively each electricity payer, unless a person gives a declaration, that he/she does not possess a radio or television receiver. There are more than 600,000 active households that are bound to pay RTV licence fee. The programme, which was only aired at weekends, was supplemented by the broadcasts of the Zagreb and Italian television, it was progressively broadened with new and variegated programme varieties, which still remains. Since then the national television strives for credibility, objectivity, quality, creativity and reaction time. The viewers are more segmented from a year to another as to their interests, life styles and watching habits, so we try to offer the widest spectre of broadcasts possible to meet the requirements of most of them. Television Slovenia thus prepares informative broadcasts including local, regional and current world news, educational, sports and entertaining broadcasts, we also prepare culture-arts programmes, the programmes for children and youth as well as religious programmes. The Programme Unit Television Slovenia consists of three chief desks: informative and educational programmes, culture and arts programmes and entertaining and sports programmes. 8 Programme Unit Television Slovenia INFORMATIVE AND EDUCATION PROGRAMMES One of the fundamental missions of the public service broadcaster is objective, credible, quality and timely presentation of current informative contents. The informative programme meets this mission with numerous daily informative broadcasts, expanded informative broadcasts and confrontations in studios. Daily informative news offer the viewers the latest and current issues concerning Slovenia and foreign countries from a variety of fields, from politics, economy and culture. Expanded informative broadcasts present all current events, explain them in details and make them relevant with the latest news. The broadcasts based on a confrontation of various protagonists try to present and explain the problems through experts, civil society representatives, politicians and others. The educational programme prepares broadcasts including professional advice and useful information linked to learning and education for all generations in an easy and viewer-friendly way, it presents information on nature, archaeological sites, history and ethnology, it also explains new notions and makes a viewer’s knowledge richer. A majority of the programme is dedicated to the contents of national importance, because we also realise one of the national television functions, which is to stimulate national identity. 9 Programme Unit Television Slovenia Programme Unit Television Slovenia CULTURE AND ARTS PROGRAMMES The culture and arts programmes promote Slovene culture, stimulate national creativity and the freedom of artistic creativity, educate and develop linguistic culture. The Desk is very versatile (it consists of as many as seven individual desks) and with its high level of production it is an important contribution to the programme offer of Television Slovenia. The Desk prepares numerous television and documentary films, domestic feature serials and series, dramas, it broadcasts recordings of concerts, ballets, operas and other culture performances, we air masses, prepare religious broadcasts and the broadcasts for children and youth. Moreover, we also present musical and dancing-ballet artists and their works, performance of a great majority of opera and choir corpuses of Slovenia, we dedicate a special attention to national versatility of the presented films, where the European cinematography and other non- American productions are preferred. The viewers are offered information on the world of culture on a daily basis, we invite the viewers to participate in culture events and we also have special programmes to stimulate the reading habits among all the viewers of Television Slovenia. 11 Programme Unit Television Slovenia Programme Unit Television Slovenia ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORTS PROGRAMMES Entertaining and sports broadcasts are aired mostly at weekends, when the viewers wish some more relaxation, easy topics and entertainment. The entertainment programme thus prepares different music shows, presenting both the national folks music and the Slovene and alternative music, Sunday family and trend broadcasts, a talk-satirical show, information on tourism and vacation destinations are also presented. For quite many years we have prepared one- time projects, like EMA, Slovenska popevka, Slovenska polka in valcek, various charity concerts and awarding of the Frane Milcinski-Ježek prize. Our sports programme covers a majority of all important domestic sports events, on which RTV Slovenia acts also as a host broadcaster and also numerous international
